So, I need this for the Mongoose potion and can't find it ANYWHERE. Noone in the town is selling it and the forest nearby apparently doesn't have it.

Any ideas? Weird that the common ingredient is the one I'm missing while I have the supposedly rare one...

Did you try the witch/healer outside the walls? She has a good number of ingredients.

This the Lady who's interested in the amulet? Did that, no luck.
Anyone else have any ideas? This is driving me INSANE.

Weren't you supposed to talk to Cedrick or whatever the craftsman elve's name was about the plant that's the key ingredient of the potion?
The key ingredient isn't Aether though. OP is looking for a common yet impossibly uncommon different material than what you get after chatting with the elf.

(Trying to avoid spoilers here but I don't know how to say it other than LOL NECROPHAGE)

Oh and by the way OP, get yourself some mushrooms. I heard they grow around water and are quite popular amongst incense dealers. ;D

You can buy an ingredient with Aether from the herbalist-type merchant next to the inn. Note that the ingredient isn't called Aether, but something else. If you mouse over the ingredients he sells, the game tells you which substances contain Aether. One of his ingredients should contain aether :)

I hope you're not referring to the incense dealer I put out of business....

But that would explain why I couldn't find it before though, thanks so much! Will have a look.

That's the thing though - I totally have THAT plant. It's the common ingredients I'm missing!

There is a mushroom that gives aether. I know this because this ingredient is one im always low on. Its called 'Sc....' something. Im not sure of the full name, but its a mushroom, and it starts with the letters 'sc'

That was the guy! But since last posting I found out the witch in Lobinden has the same mushroom for sale :)

Thanks! I didn't realise that what I needed (Aether) was contained in the mushrooms - was looking for an item with the same name when shopping! My mistake!
Aether dependence in the game is actually pretty silly, if you ask me. It's by far the most important ingredient, as it is required by the most useful alchemical items more than any other. And yet, it is also the most uncommon, at least in chapter 1.

Since all the other ingredients are plentiful to the point of being ubiquitous, you might as well just have a simple aether based crafting system, since that is the only ingredient restricting you from the things you most often want to make. All the superfluous ingredients feel like kind of a sham.

Spoilers

But as other have mentioned, there are at least three vendors (The Incense guy, the witch in the exterior village, and one of the other merchants I cant remember which right now) that sell small amounts of scheroderm (or something, the golden mushrooms that are the primary aether source), and they replenish their stock after time. So daily visits to them them should allow you to buy what you need for the more commonly used potions and bombs.

You also don't need to go into that cave for the moss. Endriga (engrega?) fetuses work too.

Thanks dude, I'm just playing this great game now and got stuck with this issue.
