Niggles: Congrats...but as a gamer for a long time (on PC) .. ive never heard of this franchise.
Anyone care to give a summary and why its a big deal? (saw a few screenshots and the chars are a bit... chunky imho lol)
Very nice JRPG, let's say it is similar to Dragon Quest.
Probably some of us played 1 and 2 on SNES/ GBA and the rest played 3 and 4 on Playstation One, so it is the taste of childhood.

Already bought, now waiting for more Capcom games to come.:)

Nice. Is there an easier way to search for individual games by all time bestsellers or do you have to scroll page by page until you find it ?

Akeashar: I guess it makes sense since it had a PC release, but I wouldn't class BoF IV as the best in the series, or super popular in my limited circles. So it was always striking me as really really weird how hard GOG was pushing the title on the Dreamlist.

Now, if it was BoF2 I'd be all over that, mainly for Kat, the fact I never finished it when I rented it from the video store, and the fun shenanigans with fusing the characters.
My "golden" Breath of Fire was actually Breath of Fire 3, but Breath of Fire 4 is definitely a strong title.

From the SNES classics... basically the 2D versions, Breath of Fire 2 is surely without doubt the best of those and i would say top 10 SNES 16 bit RPGs.

So... Breath of Fire 3 next? I am not even sure there is a PC version around, at least not in "the West", so GOG may have lesser interest "pushing it" because not very realistic porting it to PC (or becoming moved to the West)... unless BoF4 was "becoming some serious sales": Guess that is the matter GOG was looking out for.

A homebrew solution (based on an open source emulator) to run Neo Geo titles and "a couple of games from that platform" have been confirmed to being worked on right now, maybe PSX emulation is up next or even already in the works as well?
Meaning GoG wouldn't necessarily have to rely on PC ports for future re-releases.

SENSHOCK: I've never heard of Breath of Fire either. For the record i know Street Fighter/Resident Evil (Capcom)

paci2020: Not surprised. The last Breath of Fire game on consoles was Dragon Quarter for the Playstation 2 released in 2002.

Capcom apparently released a 6th game in 2016 but it was a free to play mobile game, probably with gacha. It shut down it’s servers in 2017. Doubt it can be revived, like most online games. Glad cyberpunk 2077 wasn’t an online game like that. I think Capcom just refocused it’s development to Street Fighter and Resident Evil. But BOF4 was decent for it’s time. I still remember it somewhat even though i haven’t touched it in decades. It definitely left an impression. Perhaps not as deep as Squaresoft’s FF7 or Xenogears but I still remember it.
Thanks for the info. I was about to say the only big JRPG i know is Final Fantasy. Is it as good as those?

I think it was kinda weird being on their list as well, but it's probably more to do with their relationship with Capcom than the game it's self.

i guess, with most classics firmly in place, it is time to shift attention to other platforms
9 euros for a shitty port. GOG finally found it's goldmine.
Can't wait to buy RE4 (original) on GOG for roughly the same price as RE4 (remake) on steam in a year.

Why the hell would you buy these games at this price to further validate CAPCOMs abusive pricing and bad quality?
Got the game "working" now, as far as "proper gameplay" and "graphic settings" goes.

How to make the unnecessary CPU load gone is not solved yet and i suspect it to be a deeper issue because probably related to the engine, which would be a nasty thing as it may kinda need a "custom engine wrapper" in such a case.

The current GOG version, as far as i can say, is simply a merged version of every PC port (english and japanese) with some wrappers for graphic and gamepad added. It is pretty much "raw" in this aspect, and perhaps just barely sufficient in order to make modern systems "happy".

It surely does not help that the game, which is pretty "loaded" with wrappers can react cranky if any of the peripherals is not supported or detected by a wrapper... in such a case the game can malfunction or even fail to boot. On my notebook the game works properly with low CPU load but, it got a lot of boot-up issues (up to the point the game will always fail to boot), most likely linked to some conflicts with the input wrapper or other setting issues (finally simply lack of compatibility).

On my main PC, there is not a single boot-up issue (anymore) it always does start so far and no crashes. It simply is hitting the CPU like the maddest cow ever seen.

My solutions so far:

If there is a native PC version or a PC port available there is no reason to use a emulation. Native is always the best solution as long as the devs/publishers are putting sufficient work into it. It will need the source code and to some extent a proper porting, which is some serious work, i am afraid. However, it will offer the best results if done this way.

Currently GOG is mainly using the "unaltered or nearly unaltered original version, and is using some wrappers in order to make it compatible". This is tricky because the demand on the wrapper is big and the native engine may not necessarily work properly, not even with the best wrapper around. In such cases it may even need a added custom engine.

Emulation is usually done by SNK a lot and sometimes Square Enix, along with some other companies, but it rarely is providing good results. Sure, there are awesome emulators around but those are usually not available for a commercial license, which is the thing GOG would need... because they are selling the game.

Just as i said, this is not even a good option because a PC game is not a emulation, it is a PC game for a good reason and this is the stuff GOG should be mainly providing.

Um dude not to defend Capcom or Gog but honestly 7 to 10 dollars usd for a game this old has been the industry norm for digital games for quite some time now as in several years now .. So Capcom is actually being reasonable in pricing in this case heck in fact the Dino Crysis and Resident evil games releases we got here is all reasonable priced for the industry standard norm for games this old

So I kinda wonder how you are this out of the loop for older game pricing in terms of industry standards in reasonable pricing.. Sure I'd love it to be cheaper and while I don't know the games content or length but at least when you complain about pricing and such be be sure to direct it properly like in this case the gaming industry as a whole rather then Capcom

Edit I used usd term out of habit but checking the current exchange rate of euro to usd its actually barely any difference about 1 dollar and 23 cents usd difference currently so still true

I agree, this release price is better than most and quite reasonable. Enough for me who generally waits for large discounts to jump in to buy it on day one.

Cause I'm sure a week or two from now, it'll drop with a 25% off or something. And I likely won't get started on the game for a bit. But sometimes, you just have to do it to show your excitement and support for more of it to happen in the future. Also, while GOG isn't perfect, I want it to continue to exist and stay as healthy as possible. When it stops existing, well, none of us will have a place to complain at that point anyway. ;)

Also, while I wish every game released without any issues. It's almost always not the case for someone out there. Most times these issues will work itself out, though time and patience I'm sure will be tested.

I'd rather see gems like this show up here even at a higher price (though I would wait for a discount at that point lol), than not at all. And there's a community out there that can work with an imperfect release as well and often solve most issues. What the community can't solve, is a game that has not been released here. You can't work with something that doesn't exist. =P

But that's just my personal opinion. =P

The Final Fantasy series isn't of consistent quality, so that's not really a question that could be answered.

I think BoF1 and 2 are not as good as the 2D Final Fantasy games, but are better than the 3D ones.

Ya agreed on all that for the most part ... Honestly I rarely buy games at full price but in cases like this I am willing as its cheap enough for 1 and 2 I have heard so much about this game I am interested in it enough to pull the trigger for it..plus its the type of game I am really into aswell .. So ya b\no waiting on a sale this time.. where as Resident evil and Dino Crisis games I waited to get even with a cheap enough price from the start as thats because while thematically they appeal to me in both cases.. but the Resident evil cases is the control scheme doesn't and some of the game player features I don't like never had in both mentioned cases even in the days they was standard .. where as Dino Crysis just had more appealing games interesting me for so long
