Piranjade: The match between Ghiro's Oger team and my Underworld team was crazy. I don't know why I ever tried to play seriously and avoided horrible risks in the past. Nuffle favoured me today. The Big and Heavy Fists had 15% ball possession. And they threw a snotling at my players.
The game ended 0-3.

So if you want to watch a completely crazy and unbelievable Blood Bowl match, here it is:

(For the future I have to find out how to NOT use Hail Mary Pass. It made me mess up two passes.)

Thank you. Ghiro also gave me that advise after the match. I should have cared more about this thing before playing.
I changed my settings now. Hopefully it will work better next time.
Everyone - opinions needed!

I was thinking about the 2nd season.

We are going to start it in 2-3 weeks or so right? ...Maybe now would be good time starting to think about what rules we might want to tweak and perhaps even start signing in for the new teams? Those who want to transfer the 1st season teams can do so after the seasons end.

I think it might perhaps be easier, if i will later start new thread for the second season to help the new players notice it and clear the clutter anyways.

Ideas? Opinions?

I'm off to work in a few minutes so I just write down some quick points that come to my mind right now:

- new topic for recruiting but in-season continuing this topic would be nice, I think

- one or two weeks between last match day of first season and first day of second season?

- we might consider two conferences - one for newly created teams and one for the old teams - depending on how many players we are

- adding bug fixes (11 players-problem, console problem) to first post

- I really should get that website going, right?
A new thread probably makes sense.

My thoughts:

1, It is apparently possible to replace players mid season (to avoid the Ninjada problem).
The new player would use their own team, but inherit the win/loss record & points of their predecessor.

2, having a small knockout cup competition at the end of the season (perhaps the top 4 / 8 finishers)

3, If we get enough players, having 2 divisions would be good.
Trying to run a 30 odd week league can be a nightmare for anybody….

If we do have 2 divisions, the end of season cup can still be arranged (top 4 players of each division) but it is a little more work.

4, Having a small break between seasons makes sense.

I’m sure more will occur to me later, but that will do for now…..
I think Playoff's are a must. However it gets worked out, at minimum it needs to be #4, 3, 2, & 1 at the end. Any type of tournament is far more interesting when they're variables, and gives people something to play towards. Multiple divisions would be interesting too.

As for the second season, I'm undecided if I'm going to continue in the league. I enjoy BB quite a bit and have enjoyed the league, but the time difference has really grated me down the last few weeks. This is in part to my own dedication (when I found out there were no playoffs I admittedly lost some interest), mental issues (depression), school, and other things going on but just the sheer fact of being 7 or more hours behind everyone else got, well, old. Virtually every game I've played has been in the morning for me, and I'm not exactly a morning person. It's not anyone's fault but myself and my sleeping habits/lack thereof (It's four am when I write this for instance--I haven't slept yet). But it's just worn me down.

If I do end up staying, I'll probably roll a new team. I like Chaos Dwarves and they can be really versatile, but I've gotten tired of every game coming down to my Bull Centaurs. Dwarves can't score, and Hobo's are freaking useless 70% + of the time, so every game either comes down to the BC making a clutch tackle, or a score, or some other heroic feat. I'd probably roll a bashy/dodgy team since that seems to favor my style more. But I'd have to think about it

While I'm not participating in the league, may I suggest using the forum mafia structure? One thread for signups, player availability and rule discussion, and a new thread for each league season. Thus you have a centralized discussion for the non-season things, and another thread for the in-season things.

Now seems like a perfect opportunity to change that....

1) I need to find the time to properly read the manual
2) I need to find the time to be able to play the games in the league.

Since my gaming time will be quite limited at the end of June, I won't be participating in the next season either. We'll see how it goes after that though.
I'd be in favor of a Playoff season. This entire season I played with the goal to reach some sort of "imaginary" play off season, so Id be glad to manage and play in the next season's play offs! Its a good incentive I guess.

If we manage to attract more people, opening two division would be a good idea. We could have teams move up and down to each division maybe depending on how well they do but through that we can mix things up and give additional incentives to the players.

It would be cool if we could some people with at least basic voice and video editing equipement to maybe take some time to go through the replays and do a best off show, talking about matches and important plays? You guys often talk about game mechanics and strategies here so why not turn that into a youtube show or at least a twitch stream?

Although that would be kinda cool and i might even seriously consider it if i was living singly - but the family stuff pretty much prevents me from using mic / camera atm. No own room, computer in living room and all the noise you get from the family is kinda not good for making any kind of video/speech :(

well, ill probably try to conquer some room or wardrobe from myself and the comp eventually...

the play off / division thing is interesting, but i am not yet certain how to make it so that it doesnt lead to some players having many weeks worth of no-play.

Well there is still plenty time, im sure we can figure out something.

Also as we dont yet know how many players will be participating in the second season (should be start doing first list..) i dont know how well the division would work? What do you think, how many matches would be good duration for a league season in the first place?

I'd say anything between 8-15 weeks makes a good league.
Any less & there's no room for team developement.
Any more & people struggle to commit....

So if we get less than 15 teams, go with 1 division, more than 15, go with 2.
Of course, if we somehow manage to get more than 30, we might even need 3....
The play off time is the only time teams might not get a game, but that could fill the time between season 2 & 3 (so play off teams might not even get a break!)

But yeah, see how many sign up before making any hard decisions.

It really depends on what the limitations of the league system is in the game. I've been doing round robin tournaments my entire life, so I can pump out all kinds of structures...but that does no good if the game itself goes "durrrr" and limits it.

I would say we should have two divisions next league. In this one, we had fourteen. Divided in half, that's seven teams per "division". That would mean a seven week long season, with each team getting a "bye" week where they don't play. The top two from each division then meet in the play off, with top ranked from Division 1 playing number two from Division 2, and Division 2 top rank vs. second rank in Division 1. That's pretty classic structure.

We could also do something even smaller. Assuming we had sixteen teams, a four-four team structure would be interesting. If we had twelve we could do a four-three composition.

Another idea for composition would perhaps be between returning teams and new teams, new coaches and old coaches, or maybe even geographically. If I could be put in a block with people not that different in time (say five hours or less), that would help me a lot. But I know that's probably unattainable.

Personally, I like the two division, randomized participants model. Shortens the overall league, gives more people chances at playoffs, and will keep things snappy while retaining a luck of the draw element.

Hawk52:
Depending on the split of people entering, we could manually assign people to a division by timezone...
So make sure you convince more US players to sign up.

Now is that US as an abbreviation of United States, or the slang abbreviation for USELESS?!!?

:D

If the divisions are randomized every season, it might be good - but if we have "higher" and "lower" division, it will lead to situation where some people will be always playing against the same teams...i doubt we want that?

ofcourse if we got -huge- number of new players who would stick through it, it would work better - but my guess (!) is that we'd need something like around 20+..

Not that i really now how it would work. Just quick feeling :)

...ofcourse if majority would that, then what am i to oppose :P ...its just that personally id like to play as many different opponents instead of getting stuck with "same faces" for prolonged time. Be that in 1st or 2nd division.

Anyways, good ideas everyone!
I cannot post, damn it!

Edit: This is getting ridiculous!

Whenever I try to answer some of the stuff teh post won't go through nor can I edit it into this post.

Maybe without quotes:
A best-of video would be so cool! But so time consuming to make. :-(
I think NoHit/Quälix knows some editing, and maybe people could tell about their favourite parts of this season, be it well-played or just crazy, so that not one person has to watch all matches?
But I really don't know if it is feasible...

I agree that the playoffs would have to be done rather quickly so that we don't have four weeks or so without the league really moving forward.

Let's collect players and see how many we get and go from there concerning divisions.
