“There's only one thing that can save a man from madness and that's uncertainty.”

Metro 2033 Redux the ultimate edition of one of the most compelling survival FPS games, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com. Get it up to 60% off with the launch promo!

The bombs fell sometime in July 2013. A nuclear exchange in the Middle East turns global - the United States go quickly, but they do not go quietly. Neither does Russia. The remnants of humanity are saved by an unimposing marvel of modern engineering: the kilometers of underground tunnels that weave below what are now memories of a bustling Moscow. The year is 2033, your home is the Metro.

Metro 2033 is a video game adaptation of an award winning Russian novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky - the survival horror / FPS blend took gamers by surprise with its masterfully thick horror atmosphere and a compelling, fresh, uniquely Russian universe. Metro 2033 Redux is a remastered edition, but it's also far beyond just a graphics update - thanks to significant gameplay and design updates, this release is a game fresh enough even for veterans to truly enjoy. With new graphics, new map design, impressive technical improvements and plenty of new gameplay elements - this is without a doubt the definitive way to experience Metro 2033.

Pick up both Metro 2033: Redux and the sequel, Metro: Last Light Redux in a single DRM-free bundle to get 60% off both titles, or pick up today's release or sequel at 50% off individually. The launch discount will last for 5 days, until Monday, July 27 at 9:59 AM GMT.

Lodium: XP was a pretty good OS.
If it wasn't for forced obsolescence I'd still be using XP. The number of of basic UI features I feel it did better than Vista onwards is immense.
avatar
Grargar: As likely as Dead Island. Which is to say, no bloody idea.
avatar
IronArcturus: I wonder if the sales for SR2 and 3 were good enough to bring SR4 to GOG... It definitely would be nice.
Even though I own SR2, SR3 & SR4 on two steam accounts, I still bought SR2 & SR3 on GOG. I would buy SR4 & SR:GoH here too.
avatar
EckoShy: Just curious, why are some people complaining that this is the Redux version? I thought this version only added a bunch of new features and made the graphics and performance better. Did it take something away or change something?
avatar
Digital_CHE: The Redux edition of Metro 2033 is practically another game. Not only the graphics were changed. The NPC models are others too, they didn't add new models, they just remove the original NPC model and replaced them with the Last Light models (except for one of two characters)..

The Artyom voiceover is different (luckily, the spanish voiceovers are identical to the original and the new lines use the same actor)..

The way of using the melee weapon is different, I prefer the original knife (but I like the idea of not killing the enemies if I don't want to do it.) ... The Artyom clock is different (I prefer the original analogic one)

The Stealth was better in the original; a single noise and you are dead... I remember there was an stealth suit in the original Metro 2033..

Some maps were changed... The steam achievements are broken...

And they removed the Volt Driver from the first bandits lair and from the Andrew's room

And the API is different. The original Metro 2033 and the original Metro Last Light were 32bit DX9 compatible games... That means You can play those games on older machines with Win XP SP3 without any problem if You want it... In the Redux version, You can not play on older machines...
I know that 64 bit is the standard, but if You have a legacy machine looking at You with sad eyes, alone in the corner of your room, You can not play the Redux version there, but You can play the originals..

If Deepsilver release the original Metro2033 and th eoriginal Metro Last light as a Collector's Edition Upgrade pack DLC, I don't have problem to pay.. I will buy them immediatelly. :)
Oh, I see. Yeah, that's a lot of unfortunate changes. Especially the last one about compatibility, that just sucks.

Nesoo: Count me in as another hoping for the original release of 2033, though I'll take what I can get.

avatar
Enebias: By the way, serious question: I already have the original, but it runs like utter crap. I get huge framerate drops basically everywhere (dropping nearly to 30 whenever some smoke or fire is around, a real game breaker for a FPS and particularly embarassing for a GTX 770 that can make almost every old-generation game run smoothly at maximum settings), which makes me think that the game is seriously unoptimized.
avatar
Nesoo: Try going to your nVidia control panel and change the PhysX setting to use your CPU instead of your card (Uh... or the other way around, I don't remember for sure). That fixed the terrible framerate issues for me. Just don't forget to change it back when you're done (assuming that you want to).
Thank you for the hint! :)
I tried to do that, unfortunately to no avail. I think I tried *everything* for that damn game, but it simply won't keep a constant framerate. I'm starting to think that it is not even possible, hence why I was asking how much I would miss out by playing only the Redux version.
I can live with a few framerate drops in almost any genre, but in a FPS the stuttering is unbearable. I think the original Metro 2033 might be my worst purchase ever, as I simply cannot bring myself to surpass the first hour of play when the framerate continuously jumps from 53 to 60 and since *each time* a little bit of smoke appear it drops by 20. It also strains my (overly powerful for the recommended requirments) graphics card way more than it should. It's definitely a case of bad coding.
I logged 40-45 hours in each Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light (original versions.) The Redux versions have had me excited since they were released, and I'm really happy to see them come to GOG. I will definitely be picking these up at some point.

I first played the series on GOG and I'm hooked! I'm really hoping SR4 will show up soon! :P

SR4 was even crazier than SR3. It's still hard for me to decide which of the two I like better. They played very differently while still feeling like the same game franchise.

Yeah, GOG needs to get this game! Here is the wishlist!

Oh yes please!

That and Costume Quest 2.
No Linux again? What's going on GOG? Why can't you get Linux versions like Steam does?
avatar
adamhm: Only the Windows version again :(
Yeah, this starts being very annoying already. Why does it happen all the time?
avatar
Ganni1987: Can someone from GOG clarify why there's no Linux version of this too?
avatar
DukeNukemForever: Is there a retail linux version available? If so, I guess it's hard to get that version because of licensing, as Steam lists only a windows and mac-version.
Steam lists Linux too. They just use this weird Steam icon instead of Tux now (probably referring to SteamOS, which means Linux).

GabiMoro: My Steam copy of Metro 2033 (the original) doesn`t work ( I assume because I don't have a Nvidia video card, requirement that I find preposterous, but whatever).

Does the Redux version work with AMD cards?
I've got the Steam version of Metro 2033 and an AMD Radeon HD7850. I personally have not had any issues with running this game on my AMD hardware however I don't think it is a case of "works perfectly on all AMD cards" or "unplayable for everyone on AMD cards", but more likely some issue that is specific to your card or system perhaps. Just a data point to throw out there. :)

Thank you for your reply. real.geizterfahr pointed out that I might need Nvidia PhysX but I haven't tried it yet.

...and the just-released Victor Vran is available on Steam for Windows/Mac/Linux yet here is Windows only/Mac "soon"/no mention of Linux (although it was marked as going to have Linux support here up until a few days ago). Also in the upcoming games list Shadow Warrior 2 is listed here as Windows only yet shows Mac+Linux support on Steam. Same for Nekro.

:/

Victor Vran developers will be answering user questions on Monday. Can you ask them about Linux release on GOG if you'll have a chance? I'll try too.
