“There's only one thing that can save a man from madness and that's uncertainty.”

Metro 2033 Redux the ultimate edition of one of the most compelling survival FPS games, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com. Get it up to 60% off with the launch promo!

The bombs fell sometime in July 2013. A nuclear exchange in the Middle East turns global - the United States go quickly, but they do not go quietly. Neither does Russia. The remnants of humanity are saved by an unimposing marvel of modern engineering: the kilometers of underground tunnels that weave below what are now memories of a bustling Moscow. The year is 2033, your home is the Metro.

Metro 2033 is a video game adaptation of an award winning Russian novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky - the survival horror / FPS blend took gamers by surprise with its masterfully thick horror atmosphere and a compelling, fresh, uniquely Russian universe. Metro 2033 Redux is a remastered edition, but it's also far beyond just a graphics update - thanks to significant gameplay and design updates, this release is a game fresh enough even for veterans to truly enjoy. With new graphics, new map design, impressive technical improvements and plenty of new gameplay elements - this is without a doubt the definitive way to experience Metro 2033.

Pick up both Metro 2033: Redux and the sequel, Metro: Last Light Redux in a single DRM-free bundle to get 60% off both titles, or pick up today's release or sequel at 50% off individually. The launch discount will last for 5 days, until Monday, July 27 at 9:59 AM GMT.

Ganni1987: They could at least give a reason why and explain, I expect that at least that.
About the why and explain, they did explain, on the post you read a month ago.

Also, reading your response (on the other thread), while you have all the right to want to have early access to this unfinished product (which is what the Linux release of Metro on GOG is, on GOG's opinion), it just doesn't seem reasonable to ask that GOG releases it "fuck it"-style and deals with the increased support and refund requests later. Either way, as of now, GOG doesn't do early access releases (and again, understand that's what you're asking for).

The thing isn't ready for GOG's standards, but hopefully, from what you're saying, the performance is already great on Linux, so it's safe to assume the release shouldn't take long. It's just that this happened so many times already, it's not even new, it's standard, pretty much happens with all releases, Linux comes last.
Count me in as another hoping for the original release of 2033, though I'll take what I can get.

Enebias: By the way, serious question: I already have the original, but it runs like utter crap. I get huge framerate drops basically everywhere (dropping nearly to 30 whenever some smoke or fire is around, a real game breaker for a FPS and particularly embarassing for a GTX 770 that can make almost every old-generation game run smoothly at maximum settings), which makes me think that the game is seriously unoptimized.
Try going to your nVidia control panel and change the PhysX setting to use your CPU instead of your card (Uh... or the other way around, I don't remember for sure). That fixed the terrible framerate issues for me. Just don't forget to change it back when you're done (assuming that you want to).

Can you RUN it? site says I can run it.

Paypal balance says I can buy it.

Wife's not here to complain.

Aaaaaaand bought.
Is there a real difference between the original and the Redux version besides the graphics?

IronArcturus: Is there a real difference between the original and the Redux version besides the graphics?
A list of changes compared to the original ones:

Updates the game to the 4A engine that Last Light runs on
Improves the lighting and particle effect quality
Improves character detail and animation
Adds dynamic weather
Adds more dynamic destruction
Improves combat and stealth mechanics
Improves enemy AI
Improves controls to be more intuitive and responsive
Adds features from Last Light such as takedowns and mask wipe

It also adds two new playstyles.
Survival: Makes the game more of a survival horror (same as 2033 original) by making resources more scarce, enemies deadlier, and animations slower.
Spartan: Makes the game more of a casual FPS (more like Last Light) where you have improved combat skills and resources are more plentiful.

Thanks for the info!
They're finally both on GOG! So glad I held off buying these on Steam (already have the non-Redux games there). Hopefully I can pick these up later down the line to see just how they stack up against their original versions.

Well, except for Trine 3. ;)

This is possibly the greatest "Should I Buy It" decision loop I've ever seen LOL - thanks for the laugh ;)

Except for the Can I run it? part.
Hook, line and sinker.
Another game added to my backlog.
Just curious, why are some people complaining that this is the Redux version? I thought this version only added a bunch of new features and made the graphics and performance better. Did it take something away or change something?

I think it removed part of the gloomy atmosphere and gameplay hardcoreness.
