“There's only one thing that can save a man from madness and that's uncertainty.”

Metro 2033 Redux the ultimate edition of one of the most compelling survival FPS games, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com. Get it up to 60% off with the launch promo!

The bombs fell sometime in July 2013. A nuclear exchange in the Middle East turns global - the United States go quickly, but they do not go quietly. Neither does Russia. The remnants of humanity are saved by an unimposing marvel of modern engineering: the kilometers of underground tunnels that weave below what are now memories of a bustling Moscow. The year is 2033, your home is the Metro.

Metro 2033 is a video game adaptation of an award winning Russian novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky - the survival horror / FPS blend took gamers by surprise with its masterfully thick horror atmosphere and a compelling, fresh, uniquely Russian universe. Metro 2033 Redux is a remastered edition, but it's also far beyond just a graphics update - thanks to significant gameplay and design updates, this release is a game fresh enough even for veterans to truly enjoy. With new graphics, new map design, impressive technical improvements and plenty of new gameplay elements - this is without a doubt the definitive way to experience Metro 2033.

Pick up both Metro 2033: Redux and the sequel, Metro: Last Light Redux in a single DRM-free bundle to get 60% off both titles, or pick up today's release or sequel at 50% off individually. The launch discount will last for 5 days, until Monday, July 27 at 9:59 AM GMT.
I'm considering buying the novel (Metro 2033). I saw it in the bookstore, and I was very surprised to see that it was translated to Norwegian. Has anyone here read it? Is it any good?

Elmofongo: TO EVERYONE WHO WILL PLAY THIS GAME!!!

Turn off the music and change the voice dialoge to Russian while keeping the text and subtitles to your preferred langauge. And play the game at the highest difficulty.

Now enjoy the most realistice experiance I can offer you.

nightcraw1er.488: Generally I don't see floating text when people speak to me, perhaps there should be a mod where the language is in your local dialect, with a Russian-esque accent applied?
They already have russian accented english voice.

I read it and think it's pretty good. It's more about the individual stations of the metro, their politics and the stories of their inhabitants. It's more about the society and less about shooting mutants and the mystic stuff going on there. I still don't get how someone had the idea to make a shooter out of this book. A RPG or modern Telltale adventure would have been more fitting.

I read both Metro 2033 and 2034 in English. Though for me 2034 is bit letdown, 2033 is awesome. But if you have already played the game 2033 than it should act as spoiler for plot of the novel. Still I am crazy for post-apocalyptic wasteland themed anything and Metro 2033 as book is spot on. Not sure how translation held up for you in your language.
This would be the equivalent of playing Trine Enhanced Edition, Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, or any other game that had it's original one fleshed out. And there's nothing wrong with that.

There shouldn't be anyone jumping down GOG's throat for the original, because this is still the original game, only better and fine tuned and even with it's sequel.

If there are versions missing like Linux though, that probably will show up at a later date.

Got it by the way. Metro collection complete ;D

Now bring Saints Row 1 since we didn't get that from Deep Silver either ;)

If you like post-apo, then definitely try All bad things and Ghost Book I, II, books bundled with Wasteland 2 - they are excellently-written genre pieces, written in a way that you don´t need previous experience with the game to be able to read them - they are standalone, though expanding upon existing world.

Also, Pump 6 and Windup Girl from Paolo Bacigalupi (he won Hugo and Nebula Award for the latter one in 2010) are just pure brilliance, definitely check those out.

As far as I remember is Saints Row 1 for consoles only.

About original version in general: I like it to have the original versions. Sometimes for nostalgia reasons, sometimes I prefer older graphics and older mechanics. Updated does not always mean better, in most cases it's just different (as example the Broken Sword series). Of course in some cases I can understand it's too much trouble for a minimal benefit, Grim Fandango as example, but in general it's always a nice to have and I'm thankful if there is a chance to get them also here.

In case of Metro it was already explained that the original Metro version is more like a horror FPS while the newer version was made for consoles in mind and is more a straight shooter. They differ in gameplay and that's alone is enough for me to wish for a original version release, alone to have the option to compare myself the differences.

A very cool release. Thanks!
I loved both these games, Metro 2033 on PC and Last Light on PS3. For post-apocalyptic they don't get better than that. Great atmosphere and hidden dangers keep you on your toes at all times, great visuals, cool cinematic twists to the stories, good difficulty.

I like both, but I strongly recommend playing them in order if possible. 2033 is great, but Last Light has a solid stealth/sneaking system that lacks in the earlier game and I can't imagine myself going back to the first having played the second.

The same for both: get an electronic demo on Amazon before buying. I love the genre and the game itself, but couldn't stand the book all the way -- the text is rather quirky in my opinion. Could be better.

Really now, All bad things and the Ghost books aren't bad, but excellently written is kind of a stretch eh? :-) To me their cool factor relies heavily on how much you like the games themselves... sure you don't need to have played the games to understand the stories, but I "enjoyed" them because I was a fan in the first place, shedding light in things I couldn't know from playing the games.

To be fair they're very decent for the price of free, which is how much I paid (for having kickstarted WL2).

I'll have to get back to you on Pump Six and Windup Girl... ;-)

Finally.
Wow. Nice addition. Thank you.
Excellent! Glad this finally made its way here. An instant purchase, of course. :)
Looks interesting, but is there any way GOG could get the original version?
Finally, DeepSilver!
Purchasing in 3...2...1...

Now, be good and release the Linux versions..

And, please, release the Two original Metro games. Even as a "Collector's Edition Upgrade Pack" DLC or something like that.. I can pay.
