AFnord: Was that one not handled by some major film studio that payed them for the licence?
avatar
almabrds: Never hear about that.
Did that happen for both movies?
Tried to look it up, but there's surprisingly little information about it available that I could find. What I did find was that it was not Konami that commissioned the film, rather they granted the film rights to a producer who approached them about the film, and it was a joint venture between an American and a French production company. It does not look like Konami funded the movies.
As someone else said, there is no reason they can't make games and pachinko machines at the same time. Instead they choose to completely fuck themselves out of a market with some very highly respected ips like MGS, Castlevania, Contra, Silent Hill etc...

So don't act surprised that people are pissed off because now these titles are under a creative prison. Silent Hills looked like it could have been fucking fantastic and a return to form.

Elmofongo: If people bought more games like Silent Hill Downpour they would still be in the console buisness.
Maybe because games like Downpour and Homecoming are piss poor Silent Hill games, and deserve to be tossed in a fire. Along with that godawful fucking "HD" port. If I had to choose between more Downpours and Homecomings and god forbid, Shattered Memories, or nothing at all, then they can fucking keep it and choke on it. Tomm Hulett is a hack.

But they listened to the core fans, and Silent Hills looked extremely promising. NOPE! Dead. Fucking right I'm salty. Fuck Konami.

Oh, alright.
Thanks for the information man.

I blame Kojima for this since he went to ambitious with the game I mean for fuck's sake Guillermo Del Toro? and the guy from the Walking Dead?! And a new engine? And making MGS 5 at the same time?!

The budget for this game must have been ridiculous.

snowkatt: cause a company that has a franchise that can haul in 179 million in one day normally wouldnt abandon a business model with these numbers
Oh yes they would, if they felt like it wasn't enough. And compared to the ludicrous amounts of money and popularity they enjoy from their Pachinko machines, it must seem like an insignificant amount...or at least, an amount not significant enough to justify spending their resources on developing further.

It's the same mindset that's led to WB considering Batman v Superman a "failure", even though it made over $870 million on a budget of $250 million. It didn't make $1 billion, and it didn't make the kind of money we've seen from Marvel movies, so it "failed".

I know people like Elmofongo turn their noses up at the mention of Jim Sterling, but his comments that the big companies won't be content to do *anything*, unless they can be certain that they can get *all* of the money, go a long way to explain why companies make decisions that may baffle us mere mortals.
Frankly, I still don't get why the MGS series gets so much love. The games have some of the most bloated, distracted, and non-sensical stories ever made in the realm of video games. "Yeah, I'm gruff and serious, and look at all the retarded shit I do and say while being so awesomely tough!."

haydenaurion: Just went? They and much of Japanese game publishing have been there for awhile now. God how I miss the golden age of Japanese gaming from the 90's and early 2000's.
Seriously.

Gonen32: Don't mix those. Ever.
Why not?

Makes money? Yes. Easy to develop? Yes. Pisses off online brats? Yes.
