Lemmings was a series of puzzle games, featuring cute little Lemmings that you had to rescue, and lead home to safety.
The poor little critters are not very bright, and have suicidal tendencies. It's up to you to keep them alive.

The Lemmings games are not for sale anywhere, as far as I know. It's about time that was changed.

I'm not really sure who to contact about this. Psygnosis seems to have been swallowed up by Sony. And DMA Design has been swallowed by Rockstar North. Neither site mentions Lemmings.

Good luck with that. They're a bit of a slight rights issue, given the series was mostly sold to Sony for a bit, then sold to who knows, finally ending up in the hands of Sad Puppy Games, whose website is (shocker) missing in action.

Last the little blighters were seen was on a postage stamp series in 2020.
The original Lemmings might be a bit of a problem. Let alone the fact that they were Amiga games, they were also released by Psygnosis and god knows who owns the rights to these games now.

There is however also a DOS version for Lemmings which is quite ok (even if the music sucks compared to the Amiga), and Lemmings for Windows also exists, but I think that was a 16 Bit program so screw it.

A fan made windows 10 version also exists

Anything Psygnosis is still Sony, so good luck with that. They renewed the Psygnosis trademark and logo in 2022 so they are fully determined to sit on the games and do nothing with them. You can safely consider anything Psygnosis, abandonware. They are some of the games, most unlikely to ever appear anywhere.

Upvoted even though I've still got my disk versions. :-)

In the mean-time, Neolemmix is an open-source clone with an absolute ton of levels (inc the original ones that are 'accurate').

Hmm, seems like it's bad news all around for the poor little Lemmings. And that's really sad. I would happily pay for legal copies of these games, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. ) ;

Thanks for all the info so far. I knew the first game started life on the Amigo, and it was superior to the pc verion, but the pc version is still good.

s there any hope at all for the little guys?

EDIT
Ooh, AB2012, you posted this while I was typing my reply. Thanks for this link. I'm excited for this - gonna download it after work this evening.

Don't forget the other clones such as LixD and the others. Including a playable typescript clone.

Try to contact Take2 and Rockstar, but nothing will happen

FrodoBaggins: And DMA Design has been swallowed by Rockstar North.
Not quite. DMA Design Ltd became Rockstar Studios Ltd and then Rockstar North Ltd. It wasn't swallowed - it's the same company.

DMA was purchased by Gremlin in 1997, which was purchased by Infogrames in 1999 (which later became Atari). DMA was sold to Take Two in 1999, who had previously acquired BMG Interactive (a previous publisher of DMA Design games) and packaged the two acquired entities (BMG and DMA/Rockstar North) as Rockstar Games.

tl;dr is that Rockstar North is the same legal entity as DMA Design Ltd and holds the same IP (unless they sold it at some point in the past)

Psygnosis/Sony is probably the problem as based on the 2006 PSP release developed by Team17, I suspect Sony owns the IP franchise through the original Pysgnosis publishing deal.

(Confirmed: in 2019 Sony licenced the IP to Exient who developed Lemmings: The Puzzle Adventure)

Nothing GOG can do if the rights-holders won't play ball. Still, if you'd buy one or more games here, it doesn't hurt to vote. Rest assured though, based on the number of votes (especially the 12k+ entry), GOG would love to have the games here.

I don't really know why Sony didn't toss Lemmings to GOG to make a few extra bucks when HZD came here, but I guess that could be said of numerous other highly-desired old games not here yet (besides the very legally messy ones).

Sony is too busy letting Psygnosis rot while complaining that Microsoft might let any future Activision games for Playstation games rot.

As others have already mentioned it's Sony why re-releasing anything related to the Lemmings IP isn't going to happen anytime soon.

They most likely fear it would tarnish their console-centric reputation or brand or something if they started re-releasing PC classics. Or set expectations that these PC classics would be made available on the playboxes as well.

They apparently also would rather chop off their arm or leg than hand over the Psygnosis back catalogue to GoG and let them figure out the technical prep work for them.

Considering these assumptions/speculations the only way I currently could see PC re-releases of the Psygnosis back catalogue happen is if Sony would establish a publishing subsidiary dedicated exclusively to re-releases of PC classics. It just would need to be named something that couldn't under any circumstances be associated with or traced back to Sony, for the assumed reasons stated above.

There's also the willingness to revive the Psygnosis back catalogue, which, going by statements from the Sony head honcho in regards to backwards compatibility and preservation of PS1 and PS2 games ("...they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?") looks like to be non-existent, unfortunately.
Maybe Sony's next CEO is a bit more open-minded and sympathetic in this regard.

Actually a mobile version of it was released. They don't seem to trust this stuff to be successful on PC or Mac.

No-one's likely to risk selling an outright clone, but it seems the sort of game that would be very easy to write in a modern game engine. If there's a niche that isn't being filled by an available game, why not create a new one in the same niche instead of chasing the IP rights of an old one?

Good to know, thank you!

Lemmings on the Amiga - one of the best games on the system. I first played it in the 90s but recently got to enjoy it fully via emulation.

I'm kinda tempted by Lemmings 3D (though part of me fears it might be masochistic), however I'll certainly find a way to play Lemmings Revolution in the future.
