GOG should have stayed in their comfortable little niche instead of trying to compete with Steam, they can't win, just lose more and more customers from their former niche.

Sollidottingen: This is Good Ol' Games, but you are making it harder and harder to find the old games. Why? I don't care for new indie titles!

How do i see "new releases" and sort by date released now? Why remove features? Before it was easy to see if any new nostalgia titles was added.. You could even sort by different release dates...
I completely agree. GOG is not acting very clever in this regard. Probably a reflection of poor management.

Anyway, as a secret tip, use: https://www.gog.com/games?page=1&sort=date&tab=new

That's my new landing page for GOG

This is far too pessimistic. If everybody would act this way ("you can't win") then nothing would ever change.

The real issue here is that they continue to make GOG worse (public profiles by default, no clear new releases page, pressing Galaxy on their customers, annoying ThroneBreaker ads) without need. This is just a sign of not being very clever, not a sign of increased competition. They make themselves rather less competitive this way.

I'm happy that they compete with Steam, if only because I'm not very satisfied with Steam, but I wish GOG would stop shooting themselves in their foot.

SirPrimalform: Oh you Americans and your funny pronunciation of O. :P

HereForTheBeer: 'gawg'? 'gohg'? [...]
"Johj" Is obviously the one true way to pronounce it.
This awesome thread redefines GoG to Grumpy old Gamers.
Dude there are still old games in the store. Maybe filters will be fixed with some updates but that ussualy takes time. Why not take some time and enjoy browsing. I think this argument kind off atracted a lot of negative energy for no appperent reason. I should enjoy browsing and searching for old games. You said Gog changed but you are talking about chaging it again with new features (filters). This is exactly how it changed one post at the time about how things arent how we believe should be staring at them from the dark space in time. Thank god I bought Cyberpunk of GoG when i Had the cash I'm really gratefull for that.
Just for the record, GOG now means Good or Great.

Same abbreviation but different.

Perhaps the OP missed the invite to the State Funeral for Good Old Games.

GOG died, and then was reborn with a new sense of purpose and meaning, and while it seems like the same name, the second and third words & letters are slightly different ... but require a keen observer to see the difference.

Keenness is not a common trait anymore.
Well. . . re. store content. . . my feeling is:

I think wrangling sales-contracts from publishing houses for these legacy titles became too much of a hassle, and I think they had to alter their business model. . . and I can completely understand that. I mean, first they have to procure the right to merchandise the software, then they have to emulate/modify the product to play on current OS; there's probably a lot of back-n-forth amongst studio/publisher/retailer re. what formatte/code alterations are being made with a particular legacy title. That's a lot of time/cost just to retail software at a low price-point. . . too much expense wrestling with MBAs and attorneys to finesse a profit.

Would a elegant site-directory categorisation contemporary, post-millenial, and pre-mellenial be helpful? Probably. I agree that finding the legacy titles that are available could be more convenient. Regrettably, for whatever reason, the typical retail model always persists.

Yeah i agree and can understand the shift in focus. But completely neglecting the consumer base that came to gog to find good old games and helped build the platform by purposefully making it harder and harder to sort the store by original release date is frankly anti-consumer.

Why is tinyE's account username now called "Swan24"? Did he sell/give away his account?

Um... can't find neither TinyE nor some swan in my friends list. WTF.

I know he had a run-in with another user, and then with the mods. Seems like things went awry 0_o

Does gog even allow that(the "new" account has 1000+ games and a title that seems like something TinyE would say)?

If by run-in you mean he trolled a bunch of people and sent PMs to others to incite user infighting among those he disliked, then yes....that's what he did.

you did the same many years ago. and used alts (the latter of which you admitted many times).
