ashwald: Was it really an alternative ending though? I somehow got the impression that we were simply seeing things from outside a certain someone's head.

iippo: Hideaki Anno, the director/writter suffered a sever mental breakdown right after the release of last episodes...and i think it kinda shows..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hideaki_Anno

"After the ending of Evangelion, Anno received numerous letters and emails from fans, both congratulating him on the series and criticizing the last two episodes. Among these were death threats and letters of disappointment from fans who thought Anno had ruined the series for them. Soon, a project was launched to create a movie with a new ending for the series in 1997, eventually culminating in the controversial The End of Evangelion. (End of Evangelion displayed about a dozen letters from fans, including a few death threats.)"
Read the Manga, same as End of Evangelion but with a much different and dare I say it better outcome.

Oh man, I'd heard about the breakdown, but sending death threats is just... :(

Still, 'new ending' doesn't necesserily imply new content. Just new animation. Then again, there's probably a gazillion theories about what he was thinking. Maybe there will be some hint in the trilogy. Haven't had a chance to watch any of the new movies though.

AMV Hell's got quite few good of those.
I really enjoy anime. Well, I at least enjoy the anime that I enjoy. I do not enjoy the anime that I do not enjoy.

Currently I am enjoying One Piece and Maria Holic. I should go back to enjoying some anime which used to enjoy but placed on enjoyment hold for some reason, such as Sword Art Online and Samurai 7.
Good choice! Just grabbed the HD Remaster release. The soundtrack has never sounded so crisp. They even include a short 15 minute 08th MS Team Side-Story. EZ-8 never looked so threatening to the Zeon pilots. If you love 08th MS Team, you'll love Kidou Senshi Gundam 0079 MS igLoo. It's all CGI and done in a realism style just like 08th MS Team.
I also liked Gundam 00. The sheer level of brutality and deliberate destruction the Gundam Thrones inflicted on the earth is significant. Only SEED could truly match it for level of destruction. The attempt of the Gundam Astrays to escape Alaska base before it explodes comes to mind.

I've seen all the Gundam series except AGE. I'm in the process of finishing Unicorn (UC 0096). I hope AGE doesn't devolve into the final chapters of SEED Destiny (you know, with the explody pink clouds)

Crosmando: Gundam 08th MS Team is the best Gundam series ever made, specifically because it's more gritty and doesn't have as much of the cliches of the other MSG series' I really recommend it

I recently finished watching Baccano! and holy shit was it awesome. The writing, good voice acting and just execution in general made me even like, and care about, anime characters I would normally have complete disdain for.

I heard there's some other seies by the same studio and that sort of play in the same universe (I think one of them is called Durarara?) are they just as good?

Durarara is sort of similar to Baccano, having been written by the same dude who wrote Baccano (plus adapted to anime by mostly the same staff that adapted Baccano), but the similarities can be subtle. The style is completely different. Baccano is set on USA in the 20's/30's, has a nonlinear plot, is about old American-style gangsters. Durarara is set on modern Japan, has a linear plot, is about Japanese high schoolers/deliquents/gangs.

That being said, I enjoyed both quite a bit.

Bump

I have been reading the Manga version of Evangelion and wow so far from the beginning its much better than the anime and films, the presentation looks better and Shinji seems more better here than in the anime and the ending is more interesting the End of Evangelion film (it follows the samething as end of evagelion, but with different outcomes)

I thought the whole "Manga is better than Anime thing" was just personally taste but its holding more weight for me.

For me, when it comes to mecha usually the anime is way better, but I agree with Evangelion. I think it averts this because it is actually not that mecha-focused.

And the whole "Manga is better than Anime thing" is the same as "books are better than the movies based on them". That is, 95% of truth, and in some cases so obvious it isn't even funny (refer to Black Cat anime *shudders*)
I saw the first 3 episodes of "serial experiments lain" im liking so far.
anyone here remember Science Ninja Team Gatchaman?
let's face it,it was freaking awesome.
