Ummm..so...since it has been released now....

Anyone have any thoughts on it...I have yet to play it but the screenshots do not impress me so far.
I just watched the opening cinematic and was not impressed at all. What's the deal with making everything look so cartoon like anyway.
The buzz for this sure died down.
I just Youtubed the intro... not feeling it.
Good to know I am not alone...

There "was" potential but they have went down the wrong path with it.
Despite being a huge fan of the series, I just don't see the point of this remake, at least on PC (it's obviously a good thing for iOS or Android devices).

After all the original still works flawlessly on modern OS, and free mods have added way more content than this remake. As a PC gamer I just don't see anything to get excited about, no matter how much I like the game.

Even on tablets you can use GemRB, which has most of the same improvements that BGEE does (and a few extras it doesn't) but it also uses the original non-ugly interface. And that the big sticking point... it doesn't really offer anything that isn't already readily available (for free) which makes the "Enhanced" kind of a misnomer. Though I guess it's "enhancing" Beamdog's pockets.
I watched the intro for both games. I don't think I like any of the two intros. Suffice to say though that Baldur's Gate is already a great game to begin with, so it should be a safe buy for those looking forward to the Enhanced Edition. I think.

Doesn't the enhanced edition get new quests?

It's got a couple of extra "special snowflake" recruitable NPCs, but that's about it. Which, again, is something that has been around for ages thanks to the (still-active) modding community. Though personally the only bonus NPC mod that I ever actually enjoyed was the Solaufein one in BG2.
FWIW its been pirated by SKIDROW already..hahahahhaha....hmmmmmm do i or dont i....*evil laugh* (i have the originals on disk and on GOG but i really dont want to pay for this....'enhanced edition'. If people are unsure, can always try before you by it ;)

The only reason I'd be interested in this, is honestly just for Multiplayer Purposes. I have a friend I'd love to play through the game with (We tried, but didn't get too far the first time, when we were much younger and didn't really get all of it). But other then that, there doesn't need to be a remake of this to begin with.
There have been some issues with the release, which is to be expected I suppose.

This is the best thread that covers the non-download issues I've seen so far:

http://forum.baldursgate.com/discussion/7953/list-of-the-good-and-the-bad-constructive-reference-material

Basically, the new release is pretty buggy and tbh I think the modded versions of BG look better, mostly because the UI in BG:EE takes up a huge amount of the screen even at high resolutions.

As for multiplayer, I'm not sure anyone has gotten it to work yet, seems like most folks are complaining about it not functioning right now.

Well, let's see...

1.) 400 changes to the code that fix issues and add enhancements although admittedly they have not listed anywhere i know of just what these 400 changes are. That still sounds good to me in any case.

2.) A module with a progression of 15 arena battles sounds like good fun. This is newly added content.

3.) 3 new NPCs, each of which includes their own quest offering about 4 hours of gameplay for a total of 12 hours of new gameplay if you take them all.

4.) Stuff you previously had to add via mods is now all done for you including widescreen resolutions, BG II classes, and BG II quality graphics.

5.) Updated cutscenes which is arguably a change for the better. I've only seen the opening one so far and like the original better myself but on the other hand it wasn't bad either I didn't think. I'd have to see the rest of them to have an opinion. I'm guessing they won't really add to or detract much from the experience.

6.) Some new music has been added also.

7.) iOS and Mac versions (big deal for me - the Mac version) in addition to PC version.

8.) Cross-platform multiplayer.

So for me personally who plays on a Mac now, this is a no brainer even though I can run the original. This version gives me what I want conveniently and adds some content and as such I feel it is worthwhile. I am glad they made it and look forward to what they do with BG II and I hope PST and the other Infinity Engine games.

uh looking at the videos , it does not feel that enhanced to me as the notes say....

i mean the original + mods does get the job done, multiplayer is a curious thing though

I think it's disrespectfull to GOG to encourage piracy on their own forum but yes, it's a very valid point. No realistic harm from trying the game, at least that's my opinion.

As for the Enhanced Edition, the lack of faith in a remake in this thread (or overall in general to old games) is disappointing to say the least.

Anyway, besides the current issues I think it'll be worth it once they're fixed. I wonder how long it will take for them to sort them out.
