If this really isn't coming until the end of August perhaps it's time to go back to referring to GOG as Good Old Games

Sorry, had to be done :P

HiroVoid: The idea that they're purposely holding off releasing Divinity: Original Sin to help promote the GOG Galaxy client doesn't make me think of the whole situation much better. In fact, that sounds like a terrible idea on how to promote the client.
Coming from the console world for many years, I'm curious why this was your first line of thought? On XBox / PS, the concept of the "timed exclusive" is a very real thing - I'm guessing that might be the case here and increased Galaxy integration is sort of an "I'm sorry" bone thrown by Larian to GoG. Because this went down in a very weird manner.

This is not the case. This would be incredible stupid.

I say it again. This game was supposed to be a Day 1 title with regional pricing. I am sure that we will see a release in September without regional pricing. Larian will earn much more money for the first two month from steam than from GOG.

Ganni1987: As long as Galaxy remains optional I'm all good with it but if it becomes mandatory even for a single game, that will be the day I'll say "GOG isn't much different than Steam now" and I certainly hope that day never comes.

Icinix: Yeah - and the reason I don't think that's going to happen is D:OS is running right now without Galaxy or Steam.

I think G-Doc just has their wires crossed.
Wait did I understand that right, the game is DRM-Free even on Steam? As in Steam is only needed to Download the files nothing more?

If that's the case, then lesson learned by GOG, I would hope. If this is what happened and I were GOG, from here on out I would refuse to partner with any developer and offer KS backer keys unless they get a release day build that everyone can purchase. Otherwise I'd say 'screw you' to any developer that said "We'll give you a build for backers only, but you can't sell to the general public until the Steam-exclusivity period expires". Let the devs deal with the wrath of their DRM-free backers if that happened.
I'm really sorry to hear this news, I also got the impression it would release today on gog.

Yes, it is, as was planned by Larian. But this is an even harder slap in the face to GOG. A DRM-free version available on Steam, but the GOG release was nothing but a gong show from the get-go.

It's here for those of us that backed it, but not for anyone else. (And there are still a few issues with it even for us KS backers).

Its drm-free everywhere. You can download it down from Steam and take the game files out of steam folders.
Here a quote from their kickstarter:
Will this have DRM?

No. The box version will not have DRM. The GOG.com version and the version of larianvault.com will not have DRM. The Steam version will not have keys to fill in or forms to fill out.
Excuse my French here because I can't believe the lack of communication and the slap in the face:
Release the fucking game already.
I don't care for the optional GOG Galaxy client now because it isn't even finished and multiplayer is possible to use without it. Is this some sort of prank? I wasn't really hyped for this game but I sure was interested to get it here on release day or a few days later. Not so sure right now.
A simple solution to this:

- Release the game for everyone today

- Explain that multiplayer is coming at a later date

- Finish the 'gog galaxy integration' nonsense as normal

- patch the game up with said nonsense (that's for some reason mandatory aka DRM)

I recall a comment about goggers being second class citizens and in this case I'm inclined to believe it.

I read this and your other longer post. It makes sense.

Mixing the general release with Galaxy only served to confuse things but if we remove the Galaxy part it seems more probably to me that is Larian who can decide to sell through GOG right now or not, but GOG can't decide to sell the game even if they have files that could serve for that purpose.

I agree. It's a fuck up to delay D:OS because of it.

However that fuckup does not mean that the game will necessarily contain DRM. And as Icinix pointed out, the game necessarily containing DRM is disproved by the GOG KS version, which makes it very unlikely that the general GOG release will have DRM either.
The Hell?...........

I'm ok and happy the game being DRM-Free by nature, but what I find a bit ironic is that GOG which is the number 1 store that always beats the DRM-Free horse is the one not selling it and the reason is because of an optional (or supposed to be optional) online client.

After this mess I can almost say we'll see the game for sale tomorrow.

Let's hope GOG will resolve this mess.

Probably not going to happen. Larian lists the game as available for buying only on Steam and their own online store.
Gog probably has a contract with August release date.
