serpantino: I'm looking for some more epic Blu-rays to add to my collection, preferably Asian (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) and wondered if anyone had any recommendations? Western Blu-rays are fine too.

I've got: Braveheart, Red Cliff, The Warlords, Assembly, Taegukgi, The Last Samurai, Troy, Saving Private Ryan and The Good, The Bad & The Weird. I'm holding out for the extended editions of Lord of the Rings but anything else I'm game for really; the films don't necessarily have to be filled with huge battles, just something that takes you on a great journey & has a good runtime.
The Star Wars movies will be out on Blu Ray soon.

I'm also gonna get all of the Studio Ghibli movies on Blu Ray when they come out, I'd recommend those for you to get.

Now that's an interesting one. I have a lot of their animes on dvd, I'm not sure of the benefits of getting them on Bluray too given that it's animated. Saying that though, the first Evangelion reboot film is stunning on bluray (the 2nd one is taking forever to come out in the UK ¬_¬)

Yeah but... who cares? Get a legal DVD copy then check out ADYWAN's reconstructions. Much more impressive than 3-D JarJar.

You really think I'm getting the Blu Ray set for the prequels?

Made me lol, would read again.

serpantino: I have them both on dvd... they're not that epic :P
Sorry but you don't know a thing about "epic", then :-P

*or maybe you're just too young to be aware of what really matters in life, dunno...*

The HBO series Band of Brothers and The Pacific both look amazing on Blu Ray and are great miniseries, though I prefer Band of Brothers because the story is a lot tighter than The Pacific's.
Planet Earth in Blue Ray is amazing
on an unrelated note, but good news for UK people, Cine Asia have announced the relaunch of the Hong Kong Legends label!

lotr-sam0711: Maybe it's just me, but the Star Trek bluray made the lens flair annoying. So bright, so overwhelming.
 lens frair!

"The 1080 p MPEG-4 AVC Video transfer (aspect ratio 1.85:1) is transferred directly from the digital source, so it's totally flawless. There is no noticeable grain or noise, no artifacts, and the picture really comes alive – shadows and black spaces (remember, Rodriguez was emulating Miller’s stark vision to an insane degree) feel positively bottomless. Whites shine, textures and colors (like the sick puke yellow of The Yellow Bastard) pop off the screen (page?), and the whole thing looks like a million bucks. Really, this is one of the best high-definition transfers I’ve seen.:"

The Wizard of Oz, just to show off what blu ray can do. A classic film and the blu ray brings out details you simply will never see or notice on dvd.
The Matrix
Alien Anthology
2001: A Space Odyssey
Blade Runner (seriously, watching the blu ray, the movie looked soooooo awesome.
Batman: The Dark Knight
Braveheart
Gladiator

This is GEORGE LUCAS we're talking about here. Expect any new release to include JarJar in the Mos Eisley cantina, Sebulba in the trash compactor and a CG Darth Vader instead of the costumed David Prowse to account (further) for why Darth Vader was taller than Anakin.
