Not in, but my advice is: the less you know beforehand, the better.

However, if you're determined you need information before diving into the game, then
- Fallout 2 is the better game. Make sure to play that too once you're done with Fallout 1.
- Small guns rule. You don't need any other weapon class, unless you want to mix things up.
- Speech is equally important than weapon skills. You can talk your way out of most things.
- Drug use is good. Just don't get yourself addicted.
- The time limit may make you think you need to rush things, but you don't. Take your time. The game's not that long. If for some reason you're about to run out of time, you can expand it by enlisting a water caravan in the Hub.
- Agility is the best one of the main skills. You probably don't need Endurance, Luck or Charisma that much.
- Aim for the eyes.

I wouldn't say Fallout 2 is the better game. It all depends what you appreciate more. A dark realistic post apocalyptic world or a not so dark post apocalyptic world with more freedom and things to do. Personally, I love both games. Just like I love pizza and ice cream.
I'm in. Nice topic.

1°) As people here said, there is a time limit, but in my opinion don't get rushed by it.
2°) Use the "talk about" box during dialogues with important chararcters if you have an intelligent character and if you want to go the extra mile. Many games don't have such a feature and it's a really cool way to get info about characters and quests.
3°) Don't give much effort to keep sidekicks alive in Fallout1, it's not worth it. I mean, you can heal them, but don't reload countless time the same fight because they die.
4°) The mauser is a cool handgun. Quite weak but it got an accuracy bonus. Ammunition is sparse though if I remember correctly.

QFT. The best advice ever.

Agreed. I prefer the first. By far. And I know it makes me a minority. I don't care.

I lost to a scorpion monster after wandering around too much. Also, I think the mouse buttons messed up a little during that game.

I understand. A post apocalyptic world full of porn stars, 1930s gangsters, Scientologists, kung fu masters and talking animals is not for everyone. The last Mad Max movie paints a darker picture than Fallout 2...

I agree. Everyone has their personal preferences. Me: I like Fallout 2 better because it has more of everything. More weapons, more towns to visit, more NPC's, bigger storyline, etc. Both are great games though, and I would nominate both as one of the best RPGs of all time.

Buy yourself audio hardware (for instance home cinema system) capable of decoding/playing Dolby Surround sound (of course with more than 2 columns) - greatly enhances game experience :-)

Having a high enough skill or stats can influence dialogue choices, giving you option you might otherwise not have.

Question, if i win can i gift this to someone?
I've played through Fallout countless times in the past. One thing about Fallout that really stuck out for me, when I played it again recently, was how much content was restored in the Update Mod. It's well worth getting that even in a first playthrough. Leave the Restoration Mod extra content for a 2nd playthrough, preferably as a low int chara. Totally changes the way you approach the game. 2nd playthrough is also good for metagamey stuff like getting powered armor right after vault 13. fallout is a game that almost just begs to be broken.
I'm not in because I have (and finished) Deponia

When creating my character I put my strength down to 4 to plus something else but was annoyed that I then could not use certain weapons BUT once I got the power armour that was solved (it boosts your strength while you're wearing it) so it might actually be a good thing to do after all, low carry limit is a pain though! I definitely wouldn't go less than 4 on strength either!

If there's a way to cheat to give yourself the perk that differentiates between friends and foes for free (red and green outlines rather than all red) go for it and don't feel bad - it comes in useful when things get crowded but isn't worth the perk slot and I think the devs were being dicks when they decided to not have it work that way by default!

I have not played Fallout yet so I cannot give any advice, but I have the shortcut on my desktop and plan to play it soon, so I have read through the advice offered.

Allusion to "no country for old man". I played F1 and and F:Tactics at release and didn't know much about it : I loved them both. I played F2 very late, after a lot of people told me how much superior to F1 it was, the same with more and more ..... it really didn't meet my expectations at the end, and some *things* from F1 weren't there in my opinion. /Sad _face.
I don't have it but I'm in.
I was happy to discover that I joined on June 30th :)
