Never played original (don't punish me:) ) but heard alot about. Let see how remake goes :)
I will be very happy if this comes to GOG.com.

Elmofongo: The title of this thread is sort of misleading since we still do not know if this is a built from the ground up remake.

IanM: The original announcement call it a remastering, so that does suggest more strongly that it would an HD makeover with console friendly controls added.
Sad if true. Just another classic PC game dumbed down for the console gaming crowd. I probably won't bother with this.

How can you dumb down a point and click? It's not like the controls were complicated to start with.

Double Fine is doing the remake, so I expect a 'high quality' remake :)
Hopefully with improved controls, as the keyboard controls are extremely annoying. :(
I don't see a problem either: console needs an suitable interface, PC will still get mouse and keyboard unless the developers have collectively lost all their sanity...
From the Kickstarter Project Update #40 for Broken Age [DFA] posted today:

We’re bringing Grim back!

Double Fine is pleased to announce that, along with the console exclusive PlayStation 4 and Vita versions of Grim Fandango, Manny will also reap once again on PC, Mac, and Linux!

And that’s not all, folks! All versions will be launching simultaneously, so everyone can play on day one and not have to worry about those spoilers you’ve been successfully avoiding for the past fifteen years. (Pro-tip: stay off Twitter.)

But hopefully, after all those years of patience, you can hold out just a BIT longer. Until then, here’s a retrospective on the game from 2 Player Productions!:

Um, you do realize that the original did not have a point and click interface?

i didn't say point & click, that was the other guy. In any case I was under the impression that there is some kind of update or mod that adds a good mouse & keyboard control scheme, or am I wrong about that? I would be happy with a good use of the xbox 360 pad on PC, but I think the PC version needs to have a decent PC specific mouse/keyboard control scheme regardless of pad support.

Well, mouse control for an adventure basically implies point and click. I wouldn't even know how to do it differently with a mouse.
It's an HD remaster, not a remake. The title is misleading.
I missed this game when it came out and I found my cds and installed but it HATES win 8. So I can only play in a small window until it freezes. I welcome a remaster. and I do not hate a remake if it came down to that as well. Although I will still trudge along with my tiny window original right now.
Dear GOG, you know what to do. I want to buy Grim Fandango here, not on Steam. Make it happen, please.

Just show them this and they'll cave in: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games
This article scared me for a moment. Thought it was going to be a Playstation exclusive.

Until I scrolled down and read about the PC versions.

Yes, they were. :D
