Shouldn't it be the other way around?
Don't you charge LESS, not more, for an alpha?

Just checked on the Aussie store. $89.99 for PA. HA!! Charging anything above $50 for a digital game is highway robbery

$90 for early alpha access, during the time where we're still locking down features and making tweaks to the flow of the game. This access is permanent access - you will be able to play through alpha, beta and on through retail. (Galactic Edition Equivalent with all addons)

Galactic Edition
Edition includes:
Game Key
Theta Commander PRE-ORDER EXCLUSIVE!*
Soundtrack Download
Desktop Wallpaper
Beta Access
Alpha Access
Digital Artbook
Maybe it'd be more clear if it was named "Digital Double Deluxe Edition".
Don't worry guys, you will be able to pick up the game for $5 if you wait long enough.

Dzsono: In the old days you got paid for alpha and beta testing. This marketing at its finest :)
Akaneiro is also went up as early access yesterday for $10. It's an F2P title. When asked why it's $10 on Steam, the devs stated that it was to ensure they got dedicated testers and that Valve recommended they charge in order to reduce the number of initial players (see: http://steamcommunity.com/app/230310/discussions/0/846956188662599165/#c846956269215445116).

Going by that line of reasoning, the Planetary Annihilation devs really do not want anyone playing their game =P

As a side note, people complained it wasn't clear enough that Akaneiro was actually an F2P title. The original store page mentioned F2P in 6 separate places. So what happens? The number of references to it being an F2P title are reduced to only 3 U__U.

They already have 8144 people with alpha access from the Kickstarter.

Yeah, the soundtrack and wallpaper really justify the $90 price tag.

spindown: The price is high, yes. But it makes perfect sense since any other price would have screwed over their Kickstarter backers. The only alternative would have been to not sell alpha access at all outside of Kickstarter.
Well it is a donation for the game to be made, if we judge Value they were already shafted since the extras are stuff that would cost $10 extra. But then again KS is a great place for fools to part with their money. I find it kinda disgusting that the game's going for 60 dollars since KS should be to keep costs down by having the funding given by people who only want the product, collector's edition doodads and some Ego booting thing like a NPC named after then for the fat cats; not a share of the profits like investors.

looking that the extras, they got screwed already and people know that's a scam price, ergo the outrage. I think the backers should be outraged too, but they don't want to admit that they're dupes.

The point is that it's a preorder of a special edition of a digital product that isn't going to run out.
You're not greedy like them, so why are you entitled to a lower price for a preorder of a special edition of a digital product that isn't going to run out when there's going to be a lower priced preorder of a special edition of a digital product that isn't going to run out with less stuff coming before the game comes out, and a possibility to buy a regular digital edition that has a reasonable price?

Question: How many alphas have you ever played or bought?
No biggy, I'll get it for a fiver on a steam sale. *shrugs*

One alpha game, if I remember correctly. And they made the price low as a reward for purchasing so early.

But again, Steam is not kickstarter. It shouldn't be used as such. It's just a normal store and content should be priced accordingly. They may have 8144 people who paid $90 each on Kickstarter, but how many do you think will do the same on Steam?

Exactly. If I want to donate money, then I go to Kickstarter, not the Steam store. They are asking too much for what they are offering at a store. If the lowest Kickstarter option is $1000 for this game, I really don't care because it's a Kickstarter option but this is Steam. When did stores become like Kickstarter BTW? I hope this doesn't become trendy. LOL if they think they can get Steam people to donate what their fan boys donated at Kickstarter, they are in for a rude awakening. It's not like this game is the next Call Of Duty or something.

PS
All other Kickstarter projects I've seen don't have their lowest option at $90.

Luckily they've explained the whole thing on the store page. It is completely optional, and the chances are that they're not trying to make a million dollars with the alpha access sales on Steam, especially since it's completely possible to preorder the game for $40 even now.

Long ago, in another thread, you were calling people who went against corporations' data and decisions idiots.
