I own both Witcher games (GOG and Steam versions) and have completed them several times. Especially the first one since it came out back in 2007. I actually bought a new PC just to be able to play beyond Act II. The amount of props and npcs in the Trade Quarter far exceeded the polygon budget for previous chapters of the game.

Not to mention the engine the first game uses is a resource hog. I swear Witcher 2 not only looks but also runs better (with exception of maybe one scene) on the very same computer I played the first.

mistermumbles: Have you played the first game at all? All that timed clicking gets awfully dull after a while. At least the combat can be a bit more varied in the sequel (bombs, traps, (somewhat useless) throwing knives) though the use of signs in combination with swordplay still tends to trump most in a lot of situations.
I have completed the first one and I still prefer its combat to the second one. Maybe the second one's combat becomes better later (as a similarly disgruntled, but more patient friend indicated), but I'm not going to bore myself to tears with a game I didn't enjoy as much the original.
I have both of them, and would like to have the tird one but other factors get in the way of that. Played both of them way back but i didn't own the copies, now i finaly do. Also i'v read complete saga, it's absolute amazing. I was in luck to find all of them translated in the language that i'm familiar with.
I have both games. Played the first once, and the second 4/5 times.
The second improved on the first in every way, IMO. I hope the third game will continue the same trend.

mistermumbles: ...That trailer is pretty damn ace...
I downloaded the HD E3 trailer from gamersyde, and it's glorious.

NoNewTaleToTell: I own both of the Witcher games, the hour and a half that I spent playing the first one ended my interest in the series though. Still, I imagine most of the members here own at least one of the Witcher games.
But if you already have both, why not check the other one? They are quite different.

Honestly, I didn't really like anything about the first Witcher (including story/lore/characters), so I don't see much reason to try The Witcher 2 any time soon. I mean, even if it was a complete overhaul of the first one, I'm sure The Witcher 2 still is in the same universe, with the same general direction, lore, characters, etc etc...

I'm not saying either of The Witcher games are terrible, I'm just saying that nothing about them appeal to me.

Leroux: Own both, played one and a half chapters of the first, but find it kind of hard to stick with it. I guess mostly because of all the running to and fro, all the houses you can enter without anything of interest in them, all the loot containers without anything of interest in them (probably a leftover from NWN), and the combat system alternating between uninteresting (trash mobs) and frustrating (boss battles). I haven't given up hope though that it might get better later on or at least in Witcher 2, or in any case Witcher 3. Kind of weird, if I think about it, also because I read one book and didn't really like it all that much, but still want to believe the setting and characters are interesting, for whatever reason. ;)
To be honest...I do like the game, it's just that....I don't really like it as much as I should, given the whole praise :D
And it's not because of the mechanics, because there are mods for that (I play RPGs for the story, so if combat or other stuff are too tedious, I'm getting myself some mods!) but it's just the story, I guess.
I think there's something about the presentation that just doesn't let it get stuck in my mind, for some reason. But I'll surely get through the game and give The Witcher 2 a go =)
Alternatively, you could have used your Steam key to add The Witcher to your GOG collection instead of buying it again.
Both; and gifted them for many times. Finished Witcher I for one time, Witcher II for three. First I owned Witcher II as a retail, than bough a collectors (sadly only Ebay and with non-perfect geralt-stature...) and gifted the now unneccessary Retail to a friend.
Will buy Witcher III as a collectors right from the start, don´t want to wait for Ebay this time and I think CDP deserves those 140 Bucks!
