P1na: Another option is what I did with AC3: I bought the game, then immediately went to piratebay and got a pirate version where I could play without worrying about Uplay. But I don't think I will go that route again unless I really, really want to play a particular game.
I did that with Steamworks games for years way back when. Got used to dealing with it now though. I hear ya.
