So guys, as you know I am new, and not really used to this whole "rep" thing. Only thing I know is that I want 20 rep to join the GOG gifting club. :P

Anyways, yesterday I had 2 rep, and now I have like -1...how did that happen? Can someone explain this system to me? :) Thanks guys.

Some people down rated you for asking if anyone had any more Realms of Arkania codes spare. It was specific to the thread, but i guess people don't like the fact that you have only just registered, and are asking for free stuff already.

People would be happier if you earned the rep the hard way, and to be a productive and active member here.

EDIT: I just saw that boys vs girls thread. People don't like threads such as those. You can see that it says "low rated".

My advice to you vexxum would be to forget all about the GOG gifting clubs for a good long time, like maybe a year or something. Seriously. I've been here for a couple years now and haven't even visited those threads I don't think. I have no business there until and unless I am able to spread the love (give gifts) too.

I imagine you are young and on a tight budget. We've all been there. Patience is a virtue my son. :D You just gotta take it easy and earn stuff as you go is all. I would encourage you to not even look at GOG gifting threads again, until you been here a good amount of time and gotten to know people AND you are prepared to give them gifts too. It is particularly nice if you are prepared to offer a gift first even.

As someone else suggested though, there are kind people here who often do various giveaways and subject to whatever rules they might set up it should be okay to enter those contests and maybe you'll luck out. I just did the other day myself which I was very grateful for.

When you are new especially here is a simple and very good rule of the road: don't ask for anything, offer what you can, join contests if you are allowed to and most of all just be an active member of the community talking about all things gaming and other stuff here. The rest falls into place over time. Your rep will climb by itself if you simply play nice in general.

You are probably excited to be here. GOG is a very cool place. Just slow down a little and enjoy being part of the best gaming community on the interwebs. :D
I checked the thread and see it downrated. Come on guys.... down rating someone just because (s)he's new and ask's? That pretty much just has no class - at all.

To vexxum: +1 from me and what dirtyharry50 said.
It is because of this thread:

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/boys_vs_girls

The community appears to not like it very much, it has became down-repped.

Coming straight on the forums and asking for High priced games in the gifting thread is bad form and I think people believe he is wakalo.

To the OP if you are not wakalo then welcome and search for that name in the forums to see why he is so hated.

Now now, it's also because of posts like this one:

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/gogcom_annual_survey_get_a_game_for_free/post755

Joining three months after the survey and one of the first things the person does is ask for a free game. Not very polite stuff here.
What's wrong with asking for a free game even if new to the forum? If you don't like him/her asking ignore it or say no.

It's not polite? Easily offended much? Seriously. Some people here are taking things way too seriously.

Fair enough, but after the whole wakalo/anasto/etc incident, plenty of users are wary of newcomers (especially those that joined, at most, 12 days ago). It'll go back to normal eventually, but asking for a free game right out of the gate isn't the way to get acquainted with the forum, and that's pretty much what everyone has been saying to vexxum. Participate in threads not related to getting stuff for a little while first.

True.
Sorry for getting worked up. I dislike the rating system so I tend to get irritated and post before I think when that comes up.

All fair and good. However I was talking about this thread right here being marked as low rated (which changed since I posted). Can't say I see anything in the OP to justify that.

Thank you, Sianna. I bet you this post will be down rated too. :( At least someone shows some kindness on here. Jeez...guys, I am literally a 14-year old who is looking to have some fun! And I love gaming! Please stop downrating me for being "an annoying un-mature nooob" or whatever you think.

dont worry about being down rated, the more you obsess over it the more irritating it gets.

The GoG community can be a bit harsh on newer people who come along and want given stuff the minute they get here.

your first post where you introduce yourself has it for Gods sake

http://www.gog.com/forum/general/my_intro/post1
"If anyone has a game that they don't want, then I would love to take it off your hands. xD "

My advice to you is to stop worrying about rep and enjoy what is a good community for the most part, take part in ongoing discussions. Once you have been here a while start to enter competitions and contests because by involving yourself in the community and taking part you will gain rep (provided you dont piss people off enough that they down rep you)

GoG has recently had some unsavory types coming in and doing similar to what you have done but going further and actually scamming members so please try to understand why some members are being a bit "hostile"
