I think Zeno Clash is a great game, and the community there is decent, but hot damn their naivety and unbelievably stupid perception of the virtual world can only be justified by /facepalm x 123298 times, to say the least

bansama: Actually, there are a few more things they need to do too. Such as working far more agressively in persuading partners to:
No longer impose regional restrictions
Offer fair pricing accross regions, or better yet, no regional pricing variations
Remove all activation limitations from 3rd party DRM (after all, GamersGate manage it)

TheCheese33: Yes, it's ridiculous that they can't use their GOO DRM for Call of Juarez. Steam gets it without TAGES, the most evil DRM scheme in history, and Impulse doesn't.
The service is all right. I got Street Fighter IV and Demigod on it, but I only got SFIV on it because it was $5 cheaper at the time than it was on Steam.

That whole Call of Juarez thing is bizarre. It uses no DRM anywhere else...buy it retail, it has nothing...yet it uses Tages on Impulse???
Anyway, I've used Impulse a few times. Their download speeds are usually quite good and they do some decent sales, but the client is still a bit of a pain sometimes.

Done and done.
AFAIK, the Ubisoft games offered in Impulse are still only available in North America, but they are available worldwide on Steam. Strange ...
I <3 Impulse.
Reasons to love Impulse:
Gamers' Bill of Rights-
http://www.gamersbillofrights.org/
New Impulse (this week!) with "Ready to Play"-
The other big change is the new Ready to Play matchmaking service which goes beyond the typical things you see in normal matching making systems. Instead of just relying on the skill of the player the system also evaluates people based on their age, competitiveness, favorite game types, style of play, and a bevy of other features. Players then rank what features they value the most and least and the system generates a list of recommended friends for you to play games with kind of like a game focused version of e-Harmony's personality system.

HUGE BONUS FOR GOG MEMBERS:
The new system should also be a boon to those playing older games that don't have as strong of an online community as they used to as it will also hook people up by the games they like to play.

Impulse have done ok by me.
I purchased Demigod retail from Play.com and for some reason (although the game was sealed) I had no additional material inside the DVD case other than the disc.
I contacted play.com four times saying I need another copy, but didn't even get a response.
I finally contacted Impulse, explained the scenario and they asked if I could take a photo of the game and the receipt. Sure enough, after sending in the photo's they provided me a registration key. Job done.
GOG will never be rivalled though :)
GOG > retail & 2nd hand boxed > all those other things that I don't use.
No other DD service other than GOG has made me feel like it's worthwhile using their service. There just seem to be too many little things (and some big things) which put me off.
So, can't see me using impulse anytime soon.
I just made my first purchase from them this weekend....their sale this weekend has to be the best sale in DD history. I bought Sins of a Solar Empire, and so far I am having a great experience with them. They seem to trump steam in every philosophical way, which is the important thing to me. I have stopped all Steam purchasing lately in favor of exclusive GOG/Impulse due to Steam's refusal to give users true ownership rights over their "subscriptions".

A-Pock: The only thing steam has to do to completely obliterate their competition on all aspects is to allow 1 time autentication of the games like impulse does/will do (not sure) so that we can install a steam game where we want without having to go online (if we do have the backup obviously) .

I will never buy another title from Steam until they take clear, observable steps towards "Digital distribution Nirvana":
1) Refund policy
2) Ability to re-sell games
3) Full parity of ownership rights as compared to a retail purchase.
Steam has 0/3, GOG has 1/3, and Impulse has 2/3, and are working on the third. So, the logical horse to back is Impulse IMHO.

It's nice, I like Impulse a lot. It has native HK currency exchanges (or not), but I really don't care. Being somewhat DRM-less is also a good thing too, but I've gotten so used to having my rights violated I really don't care anymore.

Sielle: Out of curiosity what part of the backups did you find you "didn't" have control over?

It locks the backups to the user's specific system. If my system dies, my backups is useless without a net connection re-authenticate. This makes Impulse backups that much less useful to me than it would be otherwise.

True, but Impulse will be releasing a GOG-style client-free install package service later this week.
I'm starting to like this thing. Started using it today, and it performs really nice.

So...like Gamersgate, then? Client-free, but you still have to be internet-authenticated when you install/play it for the first time?

Well, the client may be required during the installation of the game, not for DRM purposes, but because the files may be packaged in such a way that the client is needed to unpack them.
As for activation, that depends on the title. Games sold through Impulse do not require activation, but publishers can choose to include their own DRM. On every product page within the Impulse store, the DRM type (if DRM is present) is listed. Stardock offers their own DRM, called GOO, which is the most consumer-friendly DRM on the market. It requires a single activation, but it does not tie games to hardware, and the licenses may (per the publisher's choosing) be transferred.
Also, Impulse does not need to be running in order to play Impulse games. Stardock is also very generous in issuing refunds for purchases at the Impulse store.
