melchiz: True, but Impulse will be releasing a GOG-style client-free install package service later this week.

lowyhong: Cool, source?

This is what it will be based on:

I actually found Fences to be a bit annoying so I uninstalled it. I like to have all my downloads go to my desktop and those files seem to get scattered among the fenced files. They also get jumbled around when I play games in lower resolutions. Hopefully the final version will have a feature that lets me save downloads to a special Fences folder and distributed to specified fences.

Very nice thanks. I can't wait for many of Impulse's upcoming features. I only hope that Impulse takes up less resources than what it's doing right now.
I quite like Impulse, but they lost some goodwill when they started doing this:

bansama: Impulse was looking promising, but then they had to go the route of regional restrictions and regional pricing. I now use them far less.

Yeah, regional restrictions make you hate where you live for a minute and you think that your locale has a problem, until you realize the guys over at Impulse/Steam/D2D/GG obviously don't want your money because they have problems.
Heh. Now I'm installing Impulse client just to get a free Sins of the Solar Empire. My laptop probably couldn't play it...but I'm just sucker for free stuffs. :P
First impression of using Impulse client; WOW, this is way better than Steam client. Too bad I'm on a capped internet right now, so I couldn't download the game and try it out.

Sins isn't too demanding, I don't think. It's certainly worth trying anyway.

Not to question your greatness or anything, but you could have used YouTube's annotations instead of notepad to speed things up quite a bit.
I really, really like Impulse. However if they are serious about taking on Steam they really need to work on their distribution deals. A lot of games are restricted to US only which is very annoying. I'm sure its Ubisoft at fault but Stardock need to work harder.

It doesn't look to be much of an improvement over the current system, if any. You don't have to use the Impulse client to download the game, but you need to have the client in the target computer to authenticate and install the game. Plus, according to this blog post, it's limited to GOO enabled games.
I was expecting a entirely self-contained package, just like GOG, but it would mean no DRM as well, which perhaps it's asking too much at this point.
Yeah, I recently heard about Impulse, and it seems nice and all but... Why the regional restrictions? I suppose I could check this up myself, but I'm a lazy bum... Why exactly is the regional restrictions needed? I assume it's the game companies that requests Impulse to put in regional restrictions but... Wouldn't they earn MORE money if they had no restrictions?
I mean, regional pricings I can understand (Although I dislike it) but how does regional restrictions make sense from an economical point of view?

you can also hear me sighing at the beginning, I could have just talked.
I decided to use notepad because I also upload to places other than youtube.
