toupz111: I knew most people were stupid but this is crazier than i thought, illuminati even
Crosmando: It's a hype thing, objectively there is no reason to pre-order digital content because there's no chance of stock running out.
TentacleMayor: I dunno, it boggles the mind, especially for digital releases. Even before I grew a brain, I only preordered a game once and I did so because:
1. it was a physical copy that could, theoretically, be in short supply on release day, and
2. it was COD, so I kinda knew exactly what I was getting. It's not like I was preordering Brink or DNF.
I'm not going to make any assumptions about other people's reasoning for pre-ordering - but I think you're all possibly missing the point. Pre-ordering Cyberpunk 2077 - specifically - isn't simply about buying an unknown product that we're looking forward to playing. It's about making some noise.
When companies say that single player games are dead, I'm happy to support something that says otherwise.
When companies say that DRM is necessary, I'm happy to support something that says otherwise.
When companies say that games as a service are what we all want, I'm happy to support something that says otherwise.
When companies say that microtransactions - excuse me ... "surprise mechanics" are something we
enjoy, I'm happy to support something that says otherwise.
I could make this list 5 times as long. For many of us this isn't simply about pre-ordering a game we're looking forward to - it's about making it all-too bloody obvious that there's a market for excellent games that treat customers with respect. If that's not your bag, no big deal. You do you.
For the record, I almost never pre-order games, either, but CD Projekt have earned considerable respect and trust. I think that counts for a lot.
