johnnygoging: I liked Voyager.

but if I'm being completely honest, I liked Seven's ass most of all the Voyager shit.
I think one of the most remarkable things about Voyager was that the "eyecandy" character turned out to be the most interesting and, next to Robert Picardo's Doctor, best acted character.

johnnygoging: I still lament the way that they ended it though. it sucked.
I'll agree here. The final season was definately showing the writers to be tired, and the finale mostly sucks.

Wolfehunter: Since Gene's passing away. Every startrek since has flopped.
That is simply not true. At all. Even Enterprise, with it's four seasons, was not a "flop", that's more than the Original Series had, more than many shows last. And the only movie flop was Nemesis.

They just announced that Bryan Fuller, he of Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies and Hannibal (not to mention writer of several episodes of DS9 and Voyager), will be the show-runner and co-executive producer for the new series.

I love Fuller (though not necessarily his Trek work as much) but hate Kurtzman. I'm not sure if any one person could become much more divided on a subject than I am now...

Then you should watch Enterprise and pay attention to their science officer too :)

That is great news as far as I'm concerned. Not only is that someone familiar with "old" (pre-Abrams) Trek, but he worked on most of Voyagers very best episodes. Great, great news.

blotunga: Am I the only one Star Trek fan who actually enjoyed the new movies. Though not really treky but still entertaining imho.
I thought 2009 was ok, somewhere in the mid range of Trek movies worse then the greats but better then the worst. Into Darkness I hate utterly though even more then I hate Nemesis. It was like Wrath of Khan and, Dreadnought, an old TOS novel I liked, were thrown into a blender and somehow the good stuff all got destroyed in the blending process.

Into Darkness has Kirk shedding the signs of maturity he was showing in his final dealings with Nero in favor of returning to being an escapee from a bad high school jock film cast. Carol Marcus has undergone major personality changes with no explanation. Khan has new physical abilities even though the spilt between the two timelines took place long after he was frozen so the abilities granted by his genetic enhancement should be identical, and the blood part of the plot. What fool oked that idea?
There's some news about the new show (though nothing official).

It's supposed to be set in the classic continuity, between The Undiscovered Country and The Next Generation. And it's possible it will have a new storyline, cast and setting in the following seasons.

If this is true, I'm glad we're back in the old timeline, although I'd rather it just be set after Nemesis. The thing with possibly changing cast and time period in following seasons sounds wrong to me though. Just stick to one crew, let us get to know them.

Why this urge of them to set a whole series between or before known timelines. They just restrict themselves, annoy the fans on each "new take" (aka did not knew better/did not bother) of what happend/will happen and bring nothing special to the table for the channel hoppers that did not care that much to begin with.

It *could* turn out good; like Enterprise at the last season. But that was already when the death-knell was heard.

*sigh*

UPDATE! A trusted source has chimed in and told me that it looks like the show will be a seasonal anthology, which means the first season will be set post-Undiscovered Country. After that the entire Star Trek universe is potentially open. So those of you hoping for a post-Dominion War show... don't give up hope. That could come some day.
So... kind of like American Horror Story? Each season something completely new? *ponders* Could be interesting. Aw crap. As long as nothing of it has anything to do with JJ Verse. Lets see whats comming.
