^ Not my home, but I spent most of my time there, back then:
I was at my girlfriends apartment and she was preparing food, some gratinated zucchini, if I remember correctly. Shortly before she put these in the oven, a friend of ours rang at the door to collect something from me. The friend and I went to my car to get it and talked for a short time before I returned to the apartement. I opened the door and I swear I thought I opened the gates of hell! That smell was atrocious. I never ever thought that cheese can be like that.
The smell stuck for a while, too. Explain to visitors, that the smell is not from your shoes and feet but from some cheese you ate 5 days ago...
Esrom, cheese from hell... It was quite edible, though.

v Please share your worst cooking mishap.

^ I'm short on personal stories because I avoid old-fashion heat-cooking like the plague; but a couple of weeks ago, Grandma put a tiny cup of coffee in the microwave for way too long and about 95% of it spilled out from boiling.
< In light of the microwave being more powerful than most, what Dad did just the other day was less forgivable. His reasoning is that the black metal trey would be too hot if left on the lit stove, so he put it inside the broken oven...on top of the smaller working oven inside that was being used to bake the pumpkin pie. This same trey was needed to take the pie out, but was too hot to handle for several minutes. There were several surfaces around the kitchen he could have put it far away from any heat-source: the counter to the right of the sink, the chip-bin atop the fridge, the broken washing machine beside the fridge, the cat-food bin by the window, the table that the cat-food bin stands on.
