iippo: Actually for some reason i never noticed that postal 1 and 2 are on GoG. Not going to buy them now, but you never know when the moment of weakess comes.

Licurg: Trust me, buy Postal 2 as soon as you can. There's nothing else like it :D
I already own but never played it. I have a hard time playing FPS with dated graphics, unfortunately. It's one of the only genre's where graphics actually have a substantial effect for me. It's part of the immersion since it's a virtual world where you're in the first person perspective. I can revisit games that I have nostalgic ties to, but playing a dated FPS that I never even tried back when it was new just doesn't work for me. Sucks, because I know I'm missing out on some good titles.
Here's the thing: those who would participate in the 'online cease fire' likely fully understand the horror of the actions of that day, and are thus just about 0% likely to perpetrate such an act in the first place.

So what good is this supposed to do?

What I would rather see is that shooters get a patch that allows the players to access a basic tutorial on firearm safety from within the games' main menu. Voluntarily patched, that is, and also place firearm safety info on the games' website. I mean, if we're going to approach feel-good measures after this incident from the angle of firearms and games, then do so in a manner that might actually lead to safer firearm use and ownership.

KyleKatarn: edit: I wonder what people here would think of calling for a cease fire at a shooting range?
I was planning to meet the wife at the shooting range over her lunch hour Thursday. Wanna shoot me some virtual paper-target psychopaths with virtual bullets on the V-range.
That article is also erroneous. American Guns had been cancelled for months. It didn't get cancelled just "because of Connecticut"
So instead of broaching the subject of gun control, which might actually help prevent such future incidents, they settle for this. What an utterly half-arsed, pussy footing useless gesture.

^this.
They actually are *slowly* talking about gun control. Actual legislation will take forever if the healthcare stuff was anything to go by, though.
world in ending and they think someone gives a shit about onilne shooting ....lol --ceasefire whats the next thing they are going to ask, to make a peace treaty?

booze we all need booze, booze will save us
Umm, is it confirmed this man/boy was mentally ill? If so how about a day where everyone tries to learn a little more about mental health, illness, and social responsibility? Wouldn't that be infinitely more productive?

Because if the only thing one has to offer is to effectively sit on their couch and do nothing, sorry, being negative here, but FUCK THEM. Seriously.

Fenixp: Not to mention... Yeah, it was a tragedy. But every single day, more people get shot and noone even raises an eyebrow. It seems ... Unfair, somehow, as if all those other wasted lives were somewhat less valuable than people who died in the US.
Exactly. While these kind of shootings are tragic, the US media circuses around them are even more so. There's plenty of bad shit happening around the world every day. This - as sad to say as it is- in comparison, is just a drop in the bucket.

Graphics don't matter in Postal 2. The game as a whole is designed to be so over-the-top, that the graphics affect nothing as far as "immersion" is concerned. Just give a shot, at least that way you'll know for sure.

Or really, everyday more people are killed in car wrecks than guns. Not to mention all the IEDs in various places and health problems.

I suppose it's a nice idea, but it's more or less meaningless and probably just serves to reinforce the notion that video game violence has anything to do with these sorts of massacres.

You are not going to shoot anything, are you?

For what it's worth, I'm also against school shootings. So if there is a petition somewhere against school shootings, I'll sign it right away, if it helps any. They should send visitors to schools to tell the pupils how wrong school shootings are.

We should start one. Petition Against School Killings Anywhere.
This reminds me a bit of this recent "Movember" movement where some men were growing moustache. Apparently they were acting against prostate cancer or somesuch.

Even a colleague of mine took part in that (he was growing quite funny "himonussijaviikset" that you normally see only in German porn movies, he could wear lederhosen and call himself Gunther for all I care). Anyways, when he asked me about it, I denounced right away and proclaimed myself to be pro-prostate cancer.

luminusjohn: If he really wanted to make an impact he'd ask gamers as a community of people to show support by each donating what they can (from a dollar up?) and giving that to the families of the victims. This would have a tangible result as well as avoid making a statement on the issue of violence in the media. As someone who runs a website he could have set up the donations through his website and provided them with some relief.

iippo: The modern relief, money - pour enough of it and aaaall problems will go away.

Want to -really- do something good?

If youre in school, go to talk that loner student who is always chosen as last in sports class. If youre at work, go eat lunch with that college you sits next to you, but whose name you can barely remember. Do you ride the bus? -offer your seat to the old lady. Stuck in traffic jam? Dont even think about shouting other drivers, even if they dont know how to drive - change the radio channel to some chill channel and dont stress about something you cannot affect.

World is not going to be destroyed by some Mayan calender, Nostradamus prophecy, Niburu falling from sky or even the newest CoD 666 - its going to be destroyed because we fucking forgot how to smile to strangers and say thank you & youre welcome.

/rant off
Sorry, but I don't know what your rant has to do with my post. Yes, people can be kinder to each other. But shouldn't that include you not crapping on my suggestion of donating money to help these families in the middle of a tragedy?
