This is pretty effective advertising for a game I'd have been otherwise unlikely to notice.

Licurg: GOG isn't the only DD service selling them as Nordic Games, so why pick on them specifically ? Also, this guy's problem is with Nordic games, not with GOG.
avatar
adambiser: I know. As I mentioned in my previous post, it's like he just woke up today and decided to see if his games are still being sold anywhere.

He didn't know about them being sold on Amazon until an hour ago...
Have to agree. Makes me a bit angry that I DID buy the Darkfall games if this is how the creator deals with a problem. Very unprofessional, IMO.

adambiser: Wiki: The Adventure Company is a publishing label of Nordic Games. It is formally a division of DreamCatcher Interactive but was sold to Nordic Games in 2011 following DreamCatcher's parent JoWooD Entertainment being sold after entering administration.
I skimmed right over that. Thanks. Nice to have that make sense now. :)

Sid_Vicious: For me it sounds like buls*it.
He noticed on GOG today (game was here for a long time) and didn't check other places in the internets?
Rly?

Especially that the case should be between him and Nordic games.
The Darkfall games have been on GOG for eons, as well as on Gamersgate, DotEmu, Amazon etc.

He must be a bit of an idiot if this is the first time he's noticed :)

irishskrapper: "Very disappointed in GOG, the game download website. They have been selling my Dark Fall games and refuse to acknowledge me as the creator and copyright owner.
hmmm... according to this, he contacted GOG and they would not right their wrong. Otherwise it wasn't even remotely a "refusal". If this turns out that he is just blowing smoke, he could actually lose big on slander/libel for all the negative and assumed un-factual and public remarks towards GOG.

If he did make contact and kept getting the digital finger, I can understand his method and platform. If he didn't and chose step 1 to be childish public whining... then I definitely wonder who he paid to make his games as a sane person couldn't do both :p

Sanity and artistic talent are not always conjoined. :)

I hardly think it would be worth GOG launching a lawsuit over his comments, though. It would just make them look like corporate bullies.
I just read through the list on JB face-book page and the back at this page they are very similar with opposite goals. I think the best (well what I will do anyway) approach is to let GOG and JB sort this out themselves and not speculate on who did what to when on how now?
Edit because anything we do and write will matter zilch anyway.

"Things are moving on, like I said. I understand GOG's stance, and Nordic. But we are moving on, like I said. It will be great to have all parties happy again. The Curse Of Dreamcatcher - A Developers Tail is drawing to a close. Basically, everyone involved had conflicting info. Soon to be made good again." - Jonathan Boakes

I apparently own these games.

I have no idea when I bought them...

I got em when I bought a full promo around the time I joined.

This is stupid. If Dreamcatcher/Nordic Games lied about owning the rights to the series and signed contracts that confirmed this it's not GOG's fault.

I can assume that he didn't know, and he woke up today.

But If I would found my game (for which would like to get some money) on one DD platform, I would simply use google to check if somebody else is selling it (more money?).
That's disturbing. Wish I had the cash to buy the physical copies from him directly back in the day, these digital store / rights / distributors shenanigans are getting annoying as hell.
Although apparently this is much more widespread than people think, after the Lace Mamba mess some posts on the AdventureGamers forums seems to indicate this is only the top of the, no pun intended, Iceberg.
I wasn't aware of these issues but hope that the rights get sorted out.

Jonathan Boakes is working on a new game called "The Last Crown" (sequel to "The Lost Crown"), and it would have a great home on GOG with his other games.
A lot of things about this situation sound a little strange, but it sounds like it was a problem with many distribution sites and not just GOG. It also sounds like Boakes, Nordic, and GOG are working it out, and with any luck this will mean that we can get the new/director's cut versions of DF 1 & 2 as well as DF3 and the Lost Crown on GOG. (I always wondered why they weren't featured on GOG in the first place, and not it makes sense.)
