Fred_DM: is there anybody on this planet that doesn't already own at least one copy of Torchlight?
Yup
avatar
keeveek: Does it have mod support on gog anyway?
avatar
JMich: Yes. Patch for mod supports was added a week or two after release.
Good. Don't think there's much point in hyping a free game like that so much, but well, free gift is a free gift.

coldalarm: Any game would be fine, certainly. But giving away The Witcher would be a bad move because it will cause a bit of an outrage on the forum. I think this happened in the past with the Fallout giveaway.
By that logic GOG can't give away any game without upsetting someone unless it's a totally new addition to the site. :)

You mean like when they added Warsow or Treasure Adventure Game? :P

I'm 100% sure that nobody had that game on GOG before :P
I for one will be glad if it turns out to be Torchlight. There has been a lot of positive talk about it, but I never really felt the push to go and buy it, even when it was dirt cheap. If it will be made free, then perhaps Torchlight 2 will be released on GOG as well.

But people still complained...

I only bought it from GOG very recently (first time to play it) and it was quite good. If you like Diablo-style games... I can highly recommend it.
Huh...Torchlight.

This is great for people who don't own the game, but not so good for people like me who already own it.

That's pretty much the case. Especially if it's a popular or 'core' title like Fallout, The Witcher, etc. I remember being disappointed slightly a year or so ago when the first Broken Sword went free for a short period because I already had it (okay, I've got a few copies, but still). Some people would express said disappointment more... vocally, though.

But if it's a new addition it's entirely likely less people own it (and clearly none would have a GOG title) so everyone can join in. But if it's an existing title, then you would find some people have GOG copies and as such can't take part (which leads to disappointment, etc.).

Yeah, and people will always complain. Even if they decide to gift the whole catalog to everyone.
I also hope that this will be a prelude to Torchlight 2 coming to GOG. But I always had the impression that Runic Games wasn't at all interested in bringing it here. =/
This is my 1st summer here and I'm totally confused. :P How does GOG go about doing this?
