Yeah, another Steam sucks thread I guess, as I admit I don't like them, but the truth is this might not be Steam's fault and the fault may lie with the distributor, I just don't know. All I know is I don't like what happened. But I loved the Civilization series and the Fallout series and, well, after realizing most other consumers were giving in to this nonsense, I did too and bought those games and opened a Steam account.

So today, I power up my computer, and the first thing that comes up is Steam stuff, as usual, and I see this game advertised for 75% that sounds an awful lot like a Lord of the Realms sequel, and I LOVED LOTR.

So I bit, only 12 bucks and some change, but I bit. It was a game called Crusader King's 2. So, naturally, I thought, mmmm, Crusader Kings 1???? And Steam had that one too for $2.99. Cool, I thought, and made the splash.

NO MANUAL. For either of them.

No friggin manual always aggravates me. I'm one of those anal players that ALWAYS reads a manual BEFORE I play as I simply hate to play a game I don't already understand.

So no manual. Perhaps a decision by Steam, or perhaps this stupid game company never even made a manual, I don't know, but what I do know is that for almost all 233 of my titles here at GoG, a manual is included, and that's how it should be.

I'm steamed.

EDITED: Fixed the name of the game to show correctly "Crusader Kings 2"

I suggest watching a let's play for Crusader Kings 2. At least that's how I learned how to play it. A very nice game btw. I highly recommend it!
Thats one of the nice things GOG makes sure to cover. They have people properly pack up the releases and include things like manuals so you aren't left hanging if you like stuff like that.

Edit: In this case I'd put the blame on the game's publisher. Steam doesn't have a quality check before a game gets released (See War Z), but the publisher could have included that as an extra in the game's directory.

There are lots of games on Steam with manual (often accessed by right clicking the game in the Steam library and clicking 'View player manual' or something like that.) So yeah, that's not Steam's fault, that's a fault of whoever provided the files for the game.
I dont own either of them - but I own huge pile of games in steam and always when ive wanted to read manual ive found it...

Did you check in your game library and under the particular games properties (right click and so on)? I think thats where the manuals go. Some games ofcourse have them in their folder as well.

"Properties" is the best way to see all the dlc's you may own as well.

I thought that might be the case.

I still hate Steam though. :p

Not gonna go off on Steam here, becuz I don't use it, and I know a lot of folks do and love it. But I am with you on the manuals. I even like to print out the pdf's sometimes and read them when hitting the sack...just like really getting into the workings of a game, and often I find nice little gems in there that help with gameplay, or just make the UI more friendly, that I know I wouldn't have discovered otherwise. As you said, just another reason that makes GOG a great place to pick up games

I'd recommend going to replacementdocs.com but it appears to be down. Hmmm, wonder how long it's been like that?

I checked the properties tab, but I didn't check the folder!!!!

I'm gonna look there right now!!! Hope it's there. Thanks for pointing it out.
It is Pardaox's fault, not steam. You can blame steam for not making it a requierment, but it would be nitpicking. Especially bad Pardox as the manuals are on their website:

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?583630-Crusader-Kings-II-Manual
Fair prices worldwide
Worldwide availability
Free extra goodies
etc

It kind of makes me sad sometimes that Stuff that we, here on GOG take for granted is not available on every DD service...

Oh darn, it wasn't in the folders either.
From the Paradox Forums CKII FAQ:

Q: Where can I find the CKII manual?
A: You can download it in 4 different languages here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?585334-Crusader-Kings-II-Manual

Requires you registered on their forum which requires using your CD-key I think.
If you go to the store page for Crusader Kings 2 there's actually a link to the pdf manual there, for some reason its not actually linked in your game library. I cant say for the first game as I dont own it.
Again, it's not Steam's problem that there is no manual. The developers didn't supply one...
