Pheace: From the Paradox Forums CKII FAQ:

Q: Where can I find the CKII manual?
A: You can download it in 4 different languages here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?585334-Crusader-Kings-II-Manual

Requires you registered on their forum which requires using your CD-key I think.
nah, just click and download. you do not need to register.

amok: It is Pardaox's fault, not steam. You can blame steam for not making it a requierment, but it would be nitpicking. Especially bad Pardox as the manuals are on their website:

AWESOME, THANK YOU!!! It's now downloaded on my puter!

Now I'm gonna search that site for the manual for the first installment. Hope it's there!! Thanks again!!

iippo: I dont own either of them - but I own huge pile of games in steam and always when ive wanted to read manual ive found it...

Did you check in your game library and under the particular games properties (right click and so on)? I think thats where the manuals go. Some games ofcourse have them in their folder as well.

"Properties" is the best way to see all the dlc's you may own as well.
avatar
OldFatGuy: Oh darn, it wasn't in the folders either.
Weird - well looks like Paradox wants you to go to their web page then :<

But look earlier poster already found the link.

Ow, gave me an error till I logged in >.<
Ugh, it won't let me search their site because I'm not a member. Oh well, if I can't find it anywhere else I'll eventually join their site just to search for it I guess.

TheJoe: Again, it's not Steam's problem that there is no manual. The developers didn't supply one...
Yeah, that's likely true. It's a shame Steam doesn't require manuals be provided for all games it obtains, but at the end of the day you're right, it's Paradox's fault.

Like I said above though, I still hate Steam. :p
While some eyes might be on this thread I want to ask a totally off topic question here rather than make another thread.

Is there some setting in DosBox that would make games running in it recognize gamepads??? I can't get my gamepad to work right with Redneck Rampage even though I played that game in the 1990's with a gamepad.

Zoltan999: Not gonna go off on Steam here, becuz I don't use it, and I know a lot of folks do and love it. But I am with you on the manuals. I even like to print out the pdf's sometimes and read them when hitting the sack...just like really getting into the workings of a game, and often I find nice little gems in there that help with gameplay, or just make the UI more friendly, that I know I wouldn't have discovered otherwise. As you said, just another reason that makes GOG a great place to pick up games
LOL, yep, I print them out and read them laying in bed too, as well as my daily trip to the, err, reading room. lol

Fictionvision: In this case I'd put the blame on the game's publisher. Steam doesn't have a quality check before a game gets released (See War Z), but the publisher could have included that as an extra in the game's directory.
Sure, with Steam's current policy it is solely the publisher's responsibility to provide that kind of material but then again, it's Steam's job to define requirements from anyone who wants to release a game on their store. That in most cases that's not an issue because the publishers usually care themselves about delivering a complete and finished product doesn't mean that it's not Steam's fault that some publishers are able to release incomplete or broken products on their store.

Paradox does require you to register in their website, using one of the keys of their games. You can't even browse their forums without registering. One reason for this was that they are unwilling to give support to people who has their game but haven't bought one (Ie. no legit serial key). Kinda makes sense, no?

And Crusader Kings 2 is one of the best games ever.

Awesome! Looking forward to playing it. Was gonna try 1 first, but since no manual for 1 I guess I'll start with 2.

It is sort of like Lord's of the Realm, isn't it?

I just downloaded the manual from their forum, and I do not own the game, neither did I register to the forum to do so.

CK2 improves CK1 with every aspect. There's really no need to play CK1 if you have the sequel.

Whoa, they seem to have changed this, then. I swear, I couldn't even browse their game- specific forums without registering. Either they have changed it, or I have been eating those funny shrooms my neighbor has on their balcony.

or I may be wrong... it is still CK2 we are talking about, not 1?... I just tried a quick search for the manuals for the first one with little luck, the second is no problem.

Yeah, I downloaded the manual for Crusader Kings 2 from their site as well and I'm not a member. But It won't let me search their site for the manual to Crusader Kings 1.

ADDED IN EDIT: Ok, I found a tutorial on-line that I think will help. The Crusader Kings 1 forum reads like there is no manual. It lists all kinds of stuff such as FAQ and other in-game help but no mention of the manual makes me believe there probably wasn't one.

Oh man THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Ah, I can print it out now and read it in the reading room and in the sack. That's how I like to begin a new game experience. Read the manual, get a feel for what I'm doing, then crank up the game.

Thanks again.

Roman5: Fair prices worldwide
Worldwide availability
Free extra goodies
etc

It kind of makes me sad sometimes that Stuff that we, here on GOG take for granted is not available on every DD service...
True, but sometimes there are things on Steam that I take for granted that I can't get on GOG: achievements, friends, automatic updates, etc.

I still prefer GOG, but Steam does have some nice features. The lack of manuals is a serious problem though.

If it helps at all the manual for Crusader Kings 2 is rather poor. It's a fairly complex game and the manual really doesn't do a very good job of explaining things, nor does the tutorial.
