scoobygang: Yeah, that's great and all, and I'll certainly remember for the future. But I've still paid for a version of the game I didn't expect and don't want.

While I agree that there was some fairly major press coverage on the Australian situation prior to release, as a New Zealander I feel completely blind-sided. My first indication that I might have the censored version was after I'd made the purchase and I saw my download had "AU" in the title.
Yeah, same for me. Bit of a slap in the face.

That being said, I knew about the location change, so it's even worse in that I could have avoided it >:(

GameRager: You didn't take Gog's hint? After they made a HUGE ASS GEO IP thrad about it?
To be fair, how is one supposed to predict that a country that isn't Australia will suffer for Australia's ridiculous rating laws?

Sure, better safe than sorry would have paid off here. But not everyone is going to lie about their region for the lulz. If I'd known I'd be lumped in with Australia, I certainly would have done something. However, I didn't see the higher Australian price when purchasing either, because I'd pre-ordered before that came about.

I better get a fucking refund for this shit. I am planning to call my bank and challenge those charges otherwise.
You're trying to do the right thing and support the developers and they try so hard to piss you off and make you go elsewhere. No wonder piracy is on the rise.

I think you should apologize. GOG tried hard to make the game available uncensored and $44.99 to everyone. If you want to blame people blame your government and Atari forcing GOG to comply with laws and not undercut retail.

The fact that GOG have offerred GOG credit for the difference in price not to mention their new don't ask don't tell policy, they've done quite a commendable job to help oceania and eu customers get around this problem.

I'm not saying you don't deserve a refund, just don't be so quick to blame the devs.

Why would I blame my government? We have R16 and R18 ratings in New Zealand. Prostitution is legal, there is no reason why I should be getting a censored version of TW2.
It was GoGs decision to lump us together with Australia.
There was no warning at any stage of the purchase process that I will be buying a censored version.

I still think it was Atari's decision to do that. Regardless, you are right in that GOG should have been clearer when buying as not everybody uses facebook where the notice was placed.

Send them a support ticket asking for a refund. I can't see them refusing to cancel a pre-order.

From what I've seen in a few replies they already sent out to other people that they screwed.

Hello,

Unfortunately we're currently unable to change the version of the game that a user has on their account, after purchase. It's possible that “fan patches” that will re-enable the edited content will be released on the Internet shortly after the game's release, however we, nor CD Projekt RED, cannot be responsible for these patches, of course.

We're also compiling a list of users interested in a version change, but we can't promise if and when this could be done. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Regards
GOG.com Support

So it looks unlikely that they will do anything.

If they will not do anything, most likely, they can not do anything for you. Maybe because of some agreement they signed or something etc. You are only screwed if after the release of the game there are no fan patches to make your version uncensored. There are patches to make every copy of the Witcher uncensored. Most likely there will be such patches in the future for the Witcher 2. :)
Ive sent two support tickets in, one today and one yesterday and neither had appeared under my 'My account' page anywhere that I can see. Has anyone else had issues with support tickets?

Yes they can. It is called a refund. It is not hard.

You won't see them there, that functionality was removed from the GOG website months ago due to bugs in it and there has been no word on when or even if it will return. You will receive any responses to your support requests in your e-mail, as you should have already received a confirmation that your report was filed.

Thank you for the heads up. I have received no conformation emails. I even submitted a ticket under the website related issues section regarding the tickets not working and received no confirmation of that ticket either. My email is correct and I have received emails from GOG successfully prior to sending the tickets.

Make sure that all GOG addresses are allowed through any spam filter that your e-mail client or ISP/e-mail provider may be using. Support e-mails can come from one of several GOG e-mail addresses: hd-games@gog.com, hd-orders@gog.com, support@gog.com, orders@gog.com and do_not_reply@gog.com have all appeared in my support requests.

Same for me. I received no confirmation email on my ticket either. Double-checked spam folders - definitely not there.

As for the issue itself. I can understand how GoG may have valid and understandable reasons for what they've done here. But frankly, that's not my problem. From my point of view, they've simply pulled a switcheroo on me. They offered a given product at a given price. I accepted that offer. They supplied a different product. Simple as that.

I should point out I am the first to champion GoG's business model - the whole reason GoG is my first option for purchasing videogames is that you don't normally have to deal with this sort of bull-tiko. You pay your money, you get your game.

I have been looking forward to Witcher 2 for so long. Big fan of the first game - which I just purchased again via GoG. I pre-ordered the sequel via GoG as soon as I knew they were offering it. Unfortunately, this ridiculousness has soured the experience somewhat. I'll still play Witcher 2, but I will have to leave it a few weeks I think, until I'm less frustrated by this ludicrous situation - to give myself a chance to enjoy it for what it is.

GameRager: The info was also on the net and was causing quite a stir.....also imo if you are gonna buy from GOG(or any site really) then you should check that site first for any info about limits/etc on their products before ordering...ask some questions/etc. Also this thread was the hint, along with other articles online, easily found when goggling about the aussie censorship of TW2.
Care to link that magical info that mentions that New Zealand is getting censored Australian version?
