Apparent explanation from Bethesda about censorship of Doom 3 BFG
Post edited October 12, 2012 by shane-o
No, of course: pre-ordering blockbusters or remakes is bad, it gives the wrong message to the industry (ie that recycled blockbusters and DRMmed remakes is a good thing to spend money and time on)....

SimonG: From what I heard, the BFG edition will be censored worldwide to accommodate the German market. http://www.schnittberichte.com/news.php?ID=4069 The news are a bit older, though.
That. Fucking. Sucks.

Would you kindly pursue a political career, get elected to parliament and put an end to this anti-violence nonsense you've got going because of complexes over the second world war.

Myrokratios: Also, I seem to be the only person in existance who doesn't think that Serious Sam and Painkiller is like Doom.
Serious Sam and Painkiller are, indeed, not like Doom. There, now there's two of us.

Myrokratios: Actually, the first two Doom games aren't on the index anymore, since Bethesda requested a re-evaluation (and with the BFG Edition, it's pretty clear why). However, I can't even use Steam, due to my horrible connection, so that's out. Also, I seem to be the only person in existance who doesn't think that Serious Sam and Painkiller is like Doom.
The only people that think that Serious Sam and Painkiller are like Doom are the people who haven't actually played any of those games. Doom is a corridor shooter and Serious Sam and Painkiller are arena shooters. They're all FPS games, but they're from different subgenres.

Actually, it goes a lot deeper than WW2 complexes. The whole ideal that holds our constitution together is older, the Nazi reign just made it all the more important. I actually like it to some degree. And again, it was the publishers decision, it's not like the game wouldn't be published, but it would be AO. They want the commercial presence.
I'm thinking of getting it but something tells me Japan's release date is until November/December, so I'll have to go the ol' VPN trickery route to play it. May just wait till next month then get it instead. But as I really enjoyed Doom 3 when it first came out, I'm getting this at some point. That's for sure.

But at least I know we'll get the US version. Beth. Japan are very good at doing that now, after all the fuss we made over Skyrim =P (and their community guy sure is helpful).
no already have doom 3 and the original dooms

Honestly, how Japan is treating their PC gamers is the biggest justification for a terrorist group I've ever seen.
No, because I don't think Doom 3 is a particularly good game
I can watch my screen go black for free, so thanks but no thanks.
I'm very interested in the update, but have no interest in paying full price for it.

An update for less than 10 bucks option would be great, actually.

Also, it worries me that I still can't see the game's store page over Steam. Shouldn't it be there for pre-order already?

darthspudius: Just to make a point to a poster, you can buy Doom legally off of steam. Its not cheap but it's there... assuming it won't bruise an ego using steam. ;)

JMich: You do realize that the 2 posters in this page wanting a legal classic doom are both in Germany, right? Weird censorship laws and all that.
I thought they lifted the ban on the original doom?

They did, but nobody told Steam yet.

They did on the first one, and the they did on the second one without the Wolfenstein levels. There is a US version - that had a number of Wolfenstein 3D levels, and this one is still on the index.

Doom 3 was the first to make it through the censors unscathed (parents' groups and Bild of course up in arms about it), but the expansion pack was then later indexed.

And this, of course.

I don't really want to pay for a pre-modded game.
