Roman5: There's also another "precedent" of the fact that Sony was working on motion technology far before the wii was even released and the "precedent" of the fact that the MOVE is the best and most precise motion controller this generation
avatar
SirPrimalform: Well they announced it 8 months after the Wii remote was revealed and apparently developers only received a working Sixaxis 10 days before that E3. Doesn't sound like Sony had been working on it for that long.

Also, I thought Kinect was better.
and to me it doesn't sound like you know what you are talking about

Really? You actually thought Kinect was better huh?

Alright, what exactly did you like about it that you think made it "Better" than the wiimote or MOVE?
No matter when Move was conceptualized it sold poorly and is a distant third in the motion controller battle, despite PS3 being in a tie or close second in second place overall.

No one wanted another Wiimote years after the fad wore off.

The technology existed before Wii and Sony thought about using it as I'm sure MS did too. Lots of tech companies make hundreds of prototypes of stuff they end up discarding for several reasons. If Sony had faith in motion technology they would have shipped their console with it. They didn't, so they reacted to the success of the Wii Remote by launching their copycat years later. Do you really think that PS Move would exist without the Wii Remote before it? Sony discarded that tech demo in your article because they didn't see it as being viable.

I was talking about Sixaxis and accelerometers. Also, as far as I can tell this thing refers specifically to the "orb tracking idea" and not to the final controller which is a mixture of this and a wiimote.

I think it's a much more interesting and original way of doing motion controls and a much bigger step forwards in technology.
Remember Power Glove?

I love the Power Glove. It's so bad.

LOL. The Angry Videogame Nerd made an awesome video about it. I still don't understand how were you supposed to play Castlevania with it. Rad Racer controlled fine though.

Kinect was "hackable", and people loved it. Especially when Microsoft untwisted its panties.
I didn't realise it is already available to purchase on Amazon.com

But on the UK site it says November 30th for release:

Back in the day we'd get a console a year after the american/japanese launches.

I think the PS3 was released worldwide at the same time wasn't it? (or i seem to believe at least one modern console doing that).

Still, the Wii-U can't have been out for long.

Yeah, I think it's only been a week or two. Not worth complaining about really, compared to how it used to be.

Which is why it worked so well and precisely with games, right?

Have you actually tried playing games with that thing?

I mean not "spending 15 minutes in Kinect sports" but ACTUALLY playing full games on it?

Ok, I should have said I felt it a more worthwhile endeavour. It's quite clearly not trying to be the same thing as the Wii remote or the PS Move which are both better for some things (FPS for example).

The PS Move is basically just a combination of the eyetoy and a wii remote.
I think the competition kind of missed the point of the Wii Remote. It isn't just a motion controller, it is also a pointer, and it can also be used as a traditional controller, or as an input for other controllers. The Wii Remote is flexible and customizable, and I think Sony/MS and even the developers for the Wii kind of lost sight of that.
