It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

[UPDATE] We've concluded this testing, the post below is out of date. Great thanks to all who submitted the results. Now we're back to fine tune all this stuff :).
---------------------
Hi all,
We are currently working on improving the download speeds for you, we'd like to ask you for a little help with the testing :)
1. First and foremost, make sure that you have Beneath a Steel Sky added to your account - the game is free and pretty awesome by the way so no reason not to grab it ;).
2. Click the first download link below and note the download speeds. When the download finishes, do the same for the second link and note down the result.
DOWNLOAD 1
DOWNLOAD 2
3. Post your download speeds for "Download 1" and "Download 2" in this topic. If you have any other observations (for example one of the downloads dropped out or you got to 100% of your downlink speed etc) please post them as well.
Also, if you can retry the test on different internet connection (for example at work or at school ;) please do so.
Thank you in advance for your time and all the reports! We strongly believe that with this info we will be able to make GOG.com download speeds even better for all!
Cheers!

Download 1: ~1700Kb/s
Download 2: ~3100Kb/s
Download 1: 1.1MB/sec
Download 2: 1.3MB/sec
Downloading through the browser (Firefox 3.5.4), on an ADSL2+ connection which I tend to get around 980kb/s max. I was getting:
DOWNLOAD 1: High 400s with lots of fluctuating (going as low as 330kb/s to as high as 580kb/s)
DOWNLOAD 2: Again, some fluctuating, but speeds were a lot lower. Seemed to average around 180-230kb/s. Reached a max of 290kb/s once.
Hope it helps! =)
1. 250-400kbps, my estimated average ~300
2. 350-500kbps, my estimated average on this one ~375
EDIT: using opera browser :)

Download 1: 0-20% ~1400 kbps, 20-100% ~1250 kbps
Download 2: 0-70% ~1250 kbps, 70-100% ~1200 kbps
I have 10/10 broadband as you can guess from the speeds.
EDIT: Using Opera 10.

At home
Download 1 : 109-253 kb/s, very weak for my optical connexion, with no other down/upload at the same time. The download fluctuated a lot during the transfer...
Download 2 : 122-267 kb/s. Again, varies a lot during the transfer.
Generally much slower than what i get with the GoG downloader as it is now.
Download 1: 1.1MB/s on average
Download 2: 1.4MB/s on average
On a 14MB ADSL line, with a a wireless point between pc and broadband modem. Used Firefox to download.
first location:
1. 1.05 mbps
2. 2mbps
Using firefox. From japan:
1: 900kb to 1.4Mb. Averaged at about 1.3Mb for most of the time.
2: 700kb to 1.9Mb. Averaged at around 1.7Mb for much of the time.
The second one seemed to take more time to ramp up, but reached higher speeds near the end. Not sure what the total download time was, but it wasn't too different.
Test 1 average speed 538.1
Test 2 average speed 729.5
Both go constantly at 1.1 MB/sec.
Tested using my browser (safari) using a 15 Mbps connection from Belgium.
Test 1 - 400KB - 1MB, average about 650-700KB
Test 2 - 700KB - 900KB, average 830KB
My maximum speed is 1.8MB/s, so it only used half my speed.I get similar speeds when downloading games normally.
number 1: 650 kb +/- 50 kb
number 2: 740 kb +- 20 kb
Download 1 was 550-800kb/s stuck around the 650kb/s most the time though.
Download 2 was 700-940kb/s this one was stayed around 770-800kb/s
The second was nearly maxing out my connection speed.
1. Averaged about 720KB/sec with spikes as high as 810 and drops as low as 650
2. Averaged close to 760-765KB/sec with drops as low as 710 and spikes as high as 965. This link was much more stable than link 1, it produced a much more consistent rate of speed with fewer fluctuations
In case it matters, this was on a wired cable internet connection, 6mbps down/1mbps up.
