It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

[UPDATE] We've concluded this testing, the post below is out of date. Great thanks to all who submitted the results. Now we're back to fine tune all this stuff :).
---------------------
Hi all,
We are currently working on improving the download speeds for you, we'd like to ask you for a little help with the testing :)
1. First and foremost, make sure that you have Beneath a Steel Sky added to your account - the game is free and pretty awesome by the way so no reason not to grab it ;).
2. Click the first download link below and note the download speeds. When the download finishes, do the same for the second link and note down the result.
DOWNLOAD 1
DOWNLOAD 2
3. Post your download speeds for "Download 1" and "Download 2" in this topic. If you have any other observations (for example one of the downloads dropped out or you got to 100% of your downlink speed etc) please post them as well.
Also, if you can retry the test on different internet connection (for example at work or at school ;) please do so.
Thank you in advance for your time and all the reports! We strongly believe that with this info we will be able to make GOG.com download speeds even better for all!
Cheers!
Piotr K, GOG.com Team

Forgot to mention my connection speed, it's a 20Mb/s line.
You should probably sticky this topic, too.
Link 1: 432-620 KB/s, with much instability (the speed was virtually at every number between these two, and changing every second)
Link 2: 306-492 KB/s, and here was some great amount of jumping up and down, too.
From Denmark - on a 50 MB Cable Connection
Link 1: Average 1.2 MB
Link 2: Starts at 2 MB ends at 997 KB

On a 15mbit cable connection:
Download 1: Between 1.2-1.4MB/s
Download 2: Between 1.5-1.7MB/s
117.7 KB/s
155.3 KB/s
Note: those speeds are about right for our service and location.
On a 8 Mbit ADSL line:
Download 1: ~500 kB/s
Download 2: ~800 kB/s
Download 1: approx. 700 kB/s
Download 2: approx. 760 kB/s
The first download seemed a bit more erratic in its speeds, occasionally dropping as low as ~500kB/s. The second was far more consistent.
Not sure what speeds I'm supposed to get, Speedtest.net rated my speed (tested just now) as 6.29Mb/s - Newcastle to Birmingham tested, ping 88ms (not sure how accurate those things are though).
My experience is almost identical to Andy.
Download 1: 720 KB per second, with drops to 670 or so at times.
Download 2: 750 KB, flat out solid.
I'm on a 7 Megabit DSL line in Denver.

Oldski: Thanks folks for the results so far ;)
We still need more to have a better picture. Please keep them coming!
If you haven't yet posted your results, please help us :)

Would you like us to try both browser and the gog.downloader?
I got the same average speed on both (around 240-250 kb/s) but download 1 was more consistent (220 - 260 kb/s). Download 2 was all over the place.

Lone3wolf: Would you like us to try both browser and the gog.downloader?

At this moment we're testing downloads via browser only :)
Download 1: 160kb - 260kb
Download 2: 260kb - 320kb
I'm using a cable connect (not sure what speed) hooked to a wireless network.
1) varries between 250-370 KBps,
for a very short time reached 400KBps,
most of the time was around 300KB
2) varries between 150-250 KBps,
most of the time was around 190KB
For me the first one was faster.
I have a 4Mbps (down) ADSL.
New tests.
1: 3.8 Mbyte/s, 19sec
2: 2 Mbyte/s 36sec
Speeds being average, as I don't have software to measure highest/lowest.
Much better times than before, for some reason.
second location
speed = 20mbs
first download
600kbs roughly
second download
2mbs
Thank you.
