[UPDATE] We've concluded this testing, the post below is out of date. Great thanks to all who submitted the results. Now we're back to fine tune all this stuff :).
---------------------
Hi all,
We are currently working on improving the download speeds for you, we'd like to ask you for a little help with the testing :)
1. First and foremost, make sure that you have Beneath a Steel Sky added to your account - the game is free and pretty awesome by the way so no reason not to grab it ;).
2. Click the first download link below and note the download speeds. When the download finishes, do the same for the second link and note down the result.
DOWNLOAD 1
DOWNLOAD 2
3. Post your download speeds for "Download 1" and "Download 2" in this topic. If you have any other observations (for example one of the downloads dropped out or you got to 100% of your downlink speed etc) please post them as well.
Also, if you can retry the test on different internet connection (for example at work or at school ;) please do so.
Thank you in advance for your time and all the reports! We strongly believe that with this info we will be able to make GOG.com download speeds even better for all!
Cheers!

Download 1: 1437k
Download 2: 1905k
Both downloads done via curl, saving to /dev/null to make sure disk throughput wasn’t an issue.
Number is curl’s calculated average.
Not the fastest I’ve seen, but damn good.

You need to first add Beneath a steel sky to your account as in the instructions ;)
Since you don't have it on your account, you get a 404 :)

Download 1: 1,55 MB/sec
Download 2: 2,55 MB/sec
Both on cable internet connection.
Tested @work:
The speed varies drastically in both cases but overall No.1 was faster with an average of approx 700KBps. No.2 had an average of around 450KBps.
EDIT: Ok, It seems that the test is inconsistent. I repeated a little bit later and the results were totally different. Sorry.

Same protocol as before; downloaded via curl, saving to /dev/null to eliminate disk throughput as an issue.
Download 1: 2861k
Download 2: 8538k
Those speeds are during a heavy usage time, so I imagine they could go faster.
Download 1: 300 Kbps (around that, it kept fluctuating a little bit)
Download 2: 469 Kbps
Using Firefox 3.5.4
Download 1: Most time between 900KB/sec - 1MB/sec. Min was around 820KB/sec and max 1.1MB/sec
Download 2: 1.1 - 1.9 MB/sec. Average around 1.7.
Using Net Transport on ADSL 2+ connection.
Download 1: ~555 kbps
Download 2: ~325 kbps
Using Safari 4 from Spain.
Download 1: 720-800 KB/s
Download 2: 30-40 KB/s...

Download 1
650-700KB/s
Download 2
1.24-1.26MB/s
Download 1: ~ 590 KB/s
Download 2: ~ 650 KB/s
Using Firefox 3.5.4 and a 8 Mbits DSL connection (actually at 6257 Kbits/s during the test)
#1 - ~ 1.3 MB/s
#2 - Close to 2 MB/s

#1 680 to 800 kbps
#2 520 to 630 kbps
#2 went slower and slower as long as it was downloading
OK, so, it's like this, I've got a 2mbps (I think) ADSL connection (the max speed is circa 240 kB/s on a good day). Here are the results:
DL1 - the first minute or so it was rapidly falling from 200kB/s to 130 kB/s and it stayed that way for a while. After about 30s it skyrocketed to 200 and then proceeded to stay around 220kB/s till the end. 4-5 minutes total.
DL 2 - it started on 130kB/s and stayed that way for some good 3-4 minutes, when it slowly started to rise to 150kB/s and stayed that way till the end. Around 6 minutes total, I think...
If that helps, great. :)
