Kleetus: EDIT: If you don't gain an advantage, and you say it's frivolous, then why do it?
avatar
Coelocanth: Maybe I can give an example that will clear it up:

You're fighting mobs in the forest. You collect a bunch of stuff and then find your inventory is full. There's still loot to collect. Some from dead mobs, maybe some from a few containers. So you run back to sell some crap at the merchant to free up inventory space, then run back to the forest to collect what's left, then run back to merchant.

With the no weight mod, you collect everything then when you're back in the town you sell it off.

Net gain: nothing. You still collect the same amount of loot and sell for the same amount of orens. However, you don't end up pissing your game time away running back and forth between the battlefield and the merchants.

If you consider that cheating, then by all means fill yer boots. Feel free to not use the mod. But don't try to tell me I'm cheating in my game when what I do has no effect on anyone whatsoever and simply serves to save me some tedium.
No offense, but why do you feel impelled to pick up everything to sell? I find majority of the loot to be worth little considering how much they weigh. Plus if you don't rush through the game you should be doing ok financially (as long as you don't buy all the crafting diagrams).

Have you ever considered that the point may have been you were not supposed to waste your time running back and forth selling useless junk?

Is it cheating? Yes.
Do you have to stress about it and argue with others that it shouldn't be considered cheating? No.

No one really cares if you're cheating except you. If you consider it not enough of a cheat to worry about then just use it, it is single player after all, you're not ruining the game for anyone else.
I use a zero weight mod. Why? Because inventory management is annoying. I already beat the game once, playthroughs after that are for modding. That's why I own a gaming PC after all :-p

And with the zero weight mod installed, I don't.

No.

Who's stressed about it? I just find it rather amusing that people think you can cheat in single player.

Nor are you cheating.

Anyway, I'm done with this. It's a silly argument. I'll just go back to my modded Witcher 2 and enjoy my game.

Kleetus: Change my perception, you have to be kidding.

Being able to carry more in an RPG than what the developer intended is cheating.

Anyone trying to argue otherwise is obviously only doing so for their own vested interests.

It's obvious to just about everyone else that it's cheating, the game is designed around an imposed weight limit, which is there for a reason.

If you didn't gain an advantage from it, you wouldn't bother doing it.

Just because you can earn it in other ways, doesn't mean it's not an advantage.

Dice, fighting or arm wrestling takes more time, luck and some skill.

Using a weight mod takes none of those.

RageGT: Not all parts of a game design is perfect or written in stone. The encumbrance system is totally unbalanced, IMHO. Oblivion only became an enjoyable game with a "Bag of Holding". TW1 had a grid inventory which limited the number of items but the game also had a storage system. Origins has a limited number of different items one party can carry, expandable with the addition of some extra backpack but the stacked items do not count as individual item.

The problem is not the economy in the game. One can easily travel back and forth. The problem is that it makes the game boring and TW2 does not deserve that by far! Extra game hours can be added with intentional walking i/o running, when players can just admire the beauty of the game. It doesn't need to be forced upon players by encumbrance.

Also, the maximum load. What is the criteria for that? I don't like the number 300. I like 500 much better. I like multiples of 10, not of 3. Does Poland use Royal Measurement system? What is the 300? Pounds? Kilos? The number has no real base since none can carry 300 pounds or kilos around!

Cheating is using a god mode, in its various forms, like "mutagens in every skill" or invincible mode. Dealing with aspects of gameplay that does not affect the real state of the game is not really cheating. I use Crafting Material reduced weight and Geralt extra load- 500. And when I die, I have to restart the game from scratch because I only play Insane. (Not this time! I won't die!)

You think it's fun to be forced to waste several gaming time with frivolities like encumbrance instead of focusing in what really matters, history and character progress, under the ever present chance of death punishing us as death should?
Your math failed hard. Just saying.
I use a 900 weight mod. Just cause I want to have a storage and it's really annoying to keep selling stuff not knowing when you're going to need it.
I don't.It's more fun this way imo.You do risk not doing some stuff because you might not have the required items at the given moment, but that way you have what to do in the next playthrough.

Really? is it that difficult to work out?
Did you find your self thinking:
Hmm this is the first time I played poker against some guy to win a stuffed and mounted trolls head that contains a tongue... I recon that will happen a lot so I'll sell the tongue ASAP

You need the kit on your back, a hand full of bombs, potions and traps and you'll probably find yourself carrying some spare potion and crafting items plus a bunch of light or weightless quest items....That's it, that's all you need ... if you find a nice new armor template its not hard to acquire the parts, chances are your carrying over 70% of them just through looting.

Geralt isn't running round with a huge backpack, pack-mule and 3 hirelings. He travels light, acquires all he needs from his environment and there is supposed to be some onus on you to be the intelligence behind him....
You should be working out what gets kept and what gets dumped it's not annoying inventory management to take half a second to click on what you need rather than the "take all" button.

I thing there are some harmful preconceptions that because this game is an "RPG" it should also be an anal retentive hoard-fest... I really really hope the developers don't cave to such thinking...

By all means it's your game, mod it and have your fun with it... But there are people on here bleating that it's a shameful design floor that you cant carry infinite amounts; when the problem lies with their preconceptions and hoarder mentality.
Nope. Don't need it as I'm constantly selling and using items.

Well in the witcher 1 you had an innkeeper that could store your items. Of course it's unrealistic to carry 900 lbs. However I don't want to travel back, sell, go back pick some more, sell again, etc, then come to the conclusion I sold just a bit too many of those items which means I have to buy them again so I can complete my armor set. You can't predict what you need or not need. You can at most make an estimation.
I don't use zero-weight, but i used an upped weight amount. i can carry 500 instead of 250. and recipes and diagrams weights are reduced to zero.

really the weights just need more balance. A single page recipe should not weigh a tenth of a pound. all recipes, diagrams, etc should be stored in the journal after purchase imho.

What's with the dishonesty? Was it really necessary to make your point? Who said it's unfair that we can't carry an infinite amount? Nobody, that's who. The point is that, as I've said myself; if you can carry 4 swords, 6 pieces of armour, 100+ alchemy ingredients, crafting ingredients, 20+ books, 20+ recipes, spare boots, spare gauntlets, daggers, armour enhancements, weapon enhancements, potions, traps, bombs, trophies, mutagens, lures... but hey, upping the carry-weight limit is like, cheating maaaan! Besides, why create a game with 100,000 take-able items, when you can only take (within the games' limitations), around 100?

I know but i don't even bother giving this topic a serious answer because it's obviously cheating. The definition of cheating in a game is taking ADVANTAGE of a certain thing by exploiting its flaws. So any time of MOD that gives you even a slightly small advantage in the game is CHEATING. People that are saying this isn't true are contradicting their own thoughts and/or giving excuses to defend themselves.
And by the way. A weight system is totally necessary to make a rpg more realistic. Do anyone here carry 112 books when going to school?

No because we got a home or locker to store them in.
