nondeplumage: That controller honestly looks like it'd make my hands and arms sore from use. There's always been a damned good reason controllers have been small.
My question is more what is the point of having a screen on the controller? maybe I've missed a post or an article but there's a reason I've invested in a nice HD TV and it's not to play my console games on a controller.

This was a very good article that helped me get my head around the idea http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/jun/07/wii-u-nintendo-games-console. I have to say against my better judgement I'm quite excited by this. I doubt i'll be able to afford one though :(

Edit:Always a good idea to include the link

Expack: Why bother with a DS/3DS when Nintendo could just design an app for the Wii U for Apple and/or Android smartphones which allows you to use said smartphones as the controller?
That's another good suggestion. With android being open market it should be easy, apple perhaps not so much but I'm sure Nintendo can pull it off.

Aaaah thank you I'm going to read this.
Okay so basically it sounds like there trying to do what Sony tried with the PSP and use it with there main console. (at least this is my understanding of it)

I dunno if this is a stupid question or not but:

did they say if it was backwards compatible with wii games?

because they want nothing to do with those filthy "garage developers" and their cell phones.

Sogi-Ya: wow ... that thing looks shitty.

it's a minor tech upgrade to bring the Wii inline with the 360, and a controller that looks like a Wacom tablet.
As someone who has a Wacom tablet, I can tell you now that you sure as hell would not want to game with that.
I love Nintendo's creativity. They truly try to innovate the console scene with every new machine they churn out. I don't think Nintendo makes the most ergonomical controllers or the best equipment, but they certainly aren't afraid to try new things. The SNES popularized shoulder buttons, the N64 controller popularized the analog joystick and rumble, and the Wii popularized motion sensors. Their handhelds too, are pretty innovative, including the DS's dual screens and the 3DS.

Now they're not the first to have screens on controllers, but if done right this could be great. For example, you could be playing a game of poker with your buddies on it and have it so that nobody can see your hand, something that is almost impossible with current-gen consoles. Then again, they look bulky, awkward, and expensive. It may be okay if you're playing for 30 minutes or something, but I wouldn't want a 2 or 3 hour gaming session holding on to that thing. I hope the design changes when they release the system.

Yes it is. I'm wondering if I'll be able to transfer my stuff off of the Wii onto this console, Save data and I have some virtual console games.

serpantino: Nintendo sure do like their gimmicks nowadays. I'm almost nervous to see how much it will cost with that silly controller that looks set to ramp up the cost (plus I'd hate to see the cost of a 2nd for multiplayer.) I got a Nintendo DS when it first came out, played a hell of a lot of games and never found the 2 screen setup particularly useful and this'll probably end up used mostly for inventory and maps too which does little more than shave a couple of seconds off of the game.
I agree. All Nintendo really needs to do is make excellent games, have lots of 3rd party support, and produce a system powerful enough to handle the 3rd party offerings. They do come up with some interesting ideas, but I remember when they sold us with games, not gimmicks.

Plus they say all the Wii controllers (Wiimote, nunchuk, classic bad, balance board) will be usable on the Wii U, which is, to my opinion, a good point.

cool then. I never bought a wii because I really only wanted to play the Super Mario Galaxy games and a few others. I decided to just hold out for the next console and hope for backwards compatibility awhile ago.

I still haven't watched the conference on this thing, but I think the Wii U could be pretty cool. I just read on another site that you could use the controller screen to play games while in bed . Interesting. Then you figure there's gonna be Mario/ Zelda/Metroid games with graphical upgrades and yeah....I think I'm getting excited about the potential of this

Who thinks $400? Who thinks $600?

I'd go higher since that controller looks expensive so 700$
I'll say $400 or a little more. Not over $500
