My first actual purchase was during the Project Eternity kickstarter in October 2012. It was also when I first visited GOG all together. I was so happy to see my youth sitting here, that being every single infinity engine game that I fell in love with. I bought Icewind Dale with the desire to purchase each one separately, one at a time, even not part of a sale if I had to. I decided to finish one and then move on to the others.
At this time I didn't really understand the whole DRM thing. All I knew is that it was there and it was annoying, and it was one big reason I strayed from PC gaming since the early 2000's; I wanted to own what I bought.
Then I started visiting in early 2013 during the Torment: ToN kickstarter and really began to take notice of why GOG was so significant. I began buying games in droves, mostly in sales because there were just so many I hadn't even heard of, and also many games I've been aware of for many many years but which I never had the liberty to play. Investing in a few good sales really helped grow my collection and hack away at the decent sized catalog GOG has.
Thanks to the GOG community and the many forum threads and helpful members, as well as learning about sites like Moby games which I had never visited previously, as well as learning a lot more about indie games, classic games, the current computer gaming scene, and many small-time developers previously unknown to me, I feel as if GOG is truly a part of my life. I visit it every day if even for just a moment. And while I know I will never be as helpful or knowledgable as some of the classic or indie game guru's on this site, I do my best to contribute and I've even spread the name of GOG by word of mouth offline as well, which has brought a few people to purchase some games on here that they remember from their past.
I plan to stick with GOG as long as they adhere to their DRM-free philosophy, and I wholeheartedly support the Galaxy client. I only wish for GOG to grow and with continued growth and support, they probably will surprise us with many games and features in the years to come. I can't wait for the GOG catalog to be in the thousands :)
