Geri11: I joined because I could not believe their policies, and that using these they could stay in business. It was too good to be true. Yet, I stand corrected, and I'm happy about it. GOG for me is one of the most honest, and greatest companies out there, supplying games. Also, we (Hungarians and Polish) tend to have a kind of feeling, that we are relatives. And I'd like to support a Polish company.

My first purchase: I can't really remember, it was back in 2009. It was either Serious Sam: First Encounter or Postal 2. The second was the Witcher, or course :D

skeletonbow: You can check if you like by sorting your game shelf or list by Purchase Date on the right hand side, that's what I did. Then just scroll to the bottom and skip over any games you know were freebies. :)

+1 on Postal 2. Hope you're as excited as I am about the soon to be released Postal 2 mega patch on GOG too! :o)
It's funny how helpful and kind you are, being a Canadian, and you enjoy a game like Postal 2 :D (Maybe you are all just potential serial killers on the inside? I hope so, so I wouldn't be alone).

To answer your question: absolutely! More cats on guns, setting people on fire and making people vomit by pissing in their mouths? How can I say no to that?
I had been stalking the site for a while, ever since they went into beta but what really did it for me was FreeSpace 2, back in December 2008.
And here I am, 210 games later and going strong. Got Witcher 3 pre-ordered and waiting for Divinity : Original Sin to go live. It's a great time to be a gamer.

Off-topic : I really wish Volition would start working on a FreeSpace sequel (after 15 years, I think it's about damn time) and stop churning out those goofy Saints Row games.
I joined just for Dungeon Keeper 1 and Broken Sword 4.

I waited for BS4 for 6/7 months to turn up on steam it didn't so I bought it here.

LOL

You can unlock an achievement for finding a copy of Postal 3 laying in a junkyard in the game and peeing on it also. :) They're making a new expansion pack to be released sometime before the end of the year which we should be getting on GOG as well.

those goofy saints row games are what pay the bills for volition
and since volition is now owned by deep silver after THQ when tits up they may not have much of a say in things anyway
I joined GOG a year ago for GOG's Torchlight giveaway.

It was a trap... Now I have 70 games in GOG... XD My first purchase was Dungeons & Dragons Collection.

Starmaker: having had to confront the sad ephemerality of physical collectables
avatar
Mrstarker: Trust me, you're much better off that way. I have a lot of physical books currently and it's not fun having to relocate the entire library each time I move, having to protect them in shoddy apartments, having to keep track of stuff I lend out and inevitably doesn't get returned... Digital is the way to go.
I'm moving in a month or so, and I am already a bit miffed about all the physical PC and console games I need to move. I've already packed the PC games tighter by removing the big cardboard boxes and putting the game CDs and manuals into small plastic bags (and those plastic bags into containers which I've pigeonholed roughly by genres: action, RPGs, adventure games, strategy games...), yet I think I have to probably make several trips with my car just to move those games.
I've actually posted this once or twice: first purchase was Judge Dredd vs Death - which was more test, how GOG system and payment works. Though Judge Dredd vs Death is great average FPS.
Reason for joining was - DRM-free, old games and of course great promos.
My first purchase on GOG was Spellforce Platinum after buying it on Steam and needing to input the activation code ever time I wanted to play it.
The Broken Sword Games in 2011. ;)
I joined, obviously being enticed by older games not found elsewhere.
My first purchase was Psychonauts, bought a week after joining in 2009, followed a short while later by Unreal Tournament 2004.
I joined in October just to buy Jade Empire, but then GOG won me over with awesome sales and a great atmosphere, so now I own a fair amount of games on here.
joined for preorder the witcher 2, then some old good games!!
I came here for Sacrifice and Giants: Citizen Kabuto but ended up buying Outcast and Enclave as well. I highly regret Enclave and I'm still bothered by the horrible voxel engine Outcast has (it's a great game otherwise). My next purchase was obvious: Heroes III and I realized I will stay here till the day GOG goes bankrupt or I die. :)

I quickly noticed the great community as well although, while I'm no old timer I'm a little bothered by the lack of discussing threads, too many "give a list of X games", giveaways or some politically incorrect issue.
I joined for Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon. I had heard good things about the game, and was especially intrigued by the fact that unlike most adventures you could freely roam anywhere in a 3D world. I had never played it before, but while researching the game GOG came up and was offering it for an attractive price. Since I didn't know whether I would like the game, buying it through GOG seemed preferable to trying to track down a physical copy.

I loved the game, and while I was playing it a promo came up for the Tex complete pack. I couldn't resist and bought it. I played Pandora right after finishing UAKM, but by that time I was burned out on Tex and the story didn't quite grab me like the first game had. So I lost interest in Tex but hung around to wishlist and buy other classic games.

Interesting that the whole thing has come full circle recently with me buying and playing Tesla Effect and getting back into Tex. Never would have imagined that back in 2010.
